www Wednesday | January part 1

My bookish January started out quite well actually. I’m currently starting book number 6 so I definitely can’t complain, right? I have no clue on how I’m already at book 6 since I feel like I haven’t read that much at all haha. So let me tell you about the books I’ve read so far, what I’m currently reading and what I’m planning on reading next. Time for another Www Wednesday!

I came across this WWW Wednesdays article at KarenJo’s blog recently and decided I’d really like to participate in this bookish meme as well. This meme is hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The idea behind this meme is to answer these three questions every Wednesday;

  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

That way I can share my latest updates on my reading-stats in a nice way. I’m really excited to participate in this weekly meme, so here we go!

♥ What did I recently finish reading?

So I finished 5 books in total since the beginning of this month. I’ve started re-reading Destiny on Ice by S.R. Grey at the end of December and I ended that read at the very beginning of January. Next I did a re-read of the second book in the Boys of Winter series by S.R. Grey, called Resistance on Ice. And when I was finished with it I read book 3, which I hadn’t read yet, Complications on Ice. I’ve become addicted to Grey’s writing and re-reading the first two books was a joy and reading the new one I hadn’t read, as well. I’m really excited about book 4 in the series and I’m planning on reading more books of this author outside of this series as well.

I then started reading a book I received this Christmas and one I was dying to start for such a long time now; Goddess of the Sea by P.C. Cast, the first book in the Goddess Summoning series. This was at the same time, the first book I got to check off my Beat the Blacklist-list, so that was great! I really loved the mythology elements in this book but the writing wasn’t always spectacular I think. It sometimes took me a while before I got really lost in this book. But I’m definitely planning on reading more of this series because overall I really liked the book and I’m really curious to see what P.C. Cast did with the other topics in the books following this one.

After finishing Goddess of the Sea I was really indecisive about what to read next and it took me a while before I settled on a book. I chose This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner, book 2 in the Starbound trilogy. I love Young adult sci-fi and have quite a collection already and the Starbound books were one of the firsts that I added to the collection a couple of years ago. I read book 1 then and liked it. I gave it a 3.5-star rating – for more insight on why I give it That rating you can read my extended review HERE.  I really liked the book then but had some issues with some things, but to be honest… After reading book 2 now, I think I’d give book 1 a higher rating if I’d re-read it, so maybe I go back to reread it one day. So, back on track. I loved book 2 – review went online earlier today and you can read it HERE if you like – and I’m really excited to start reading book 3.

♥ What am I currently reading?

I started reading a book on my kindle – I try to read a printed and a digital book at the same time. Well, not the Same time, but alternately. – and went with the Austen Escape by Katherine Reay. I received this book through Netgalley months ago in exchange for an honest review but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. And now felt like a good time to do so. I love women’s fiction/chick lit from time to time and I’m so curious about this author’s book, in which she writes Jane Austen elements into the story-lines. So you’ll definitely see a review on this one soon! – Side-note; this author has more books in which she wrote Jane Austen elements, so that’s really awesome, don’t you think?! I’m definitely going to check them out as well.

I also decided to start reading book 3 in the Starbound series by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner: Their Fractured Light. I’m just too curious to see how things are going to end and I’m quite curious about both characters in this book; Sofia and Gideon. Sofia, I met in book 2 and I already felt like she had enormous potential to become a really interesting character so I can’t wait to find out how she’s going to play her role in all of this. And Gideon sounds like a character I’m going to like, I just feel it haha – 18 yr old hacker, whiz kid, and urban warrior. Sounds awesome right?

♥ What do I think I’ll read next?

Hmm.. what to read next? Since I’m currently reading 2 books that aren’t on my blacklist reading challenge, I think I’m going to at least read one of the books from that list. And I also want to read a review book, but which one exactly? There are many awesome books waiting to be read so it’s going to be a tough choice haha. I’m thinking about;

  1. I am so curious to read about your thoughts about Warcorss (when you finish it of course). You should definetly read Wonder Woman and Roar soon, I really enjoyed reading both books.
    I just finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (childhood memories!!) and I think I am going to read Phobos² next (Kwante’s blogpost about Phobos³ made me want to continue in the series) and after that I will probably go for Our Dark Duet, since I need to finish the duology!!

  2. Those are some great reads!!! I have ROAR on my neverending list. I read a few chapters last year and liked it, but things came up and I had to put it on hold. Then I started reading other books and never got back to it. I’m planning on reading it this year before the sequel comes out.
