For today’s TTT I get to make a list of books I’ve wanted to read in 2017 but didn’t get to. Let me tell you: that are A LOT OF BOOKS haha. Just from the 2017 releases alone, there are a lot of them I’ve wanted to read but haven’t gotten around to do so yet. But also books released prior 2017; I lost count hahaha.
So I’ve recently joined the Beat the Blacklist challenge in which the goal is to try to tackle your tbr. I made a list of 30 books for this challenge; 15 books which were released in 2017 and 15 books which were released prior 2017 and I really really really want to read as well. So, again, a list of 10 books is just unrealistic for me, since there are dozens and dozens of books I’ve been wanting to read and didn’t get to yet. So I decided to share the list of books which were released in 2017, that I created for the Blacklist. These are all 2017 releases I’ve actually wanted to read after the releases, but I never got around to. So I really hope with the help of this challenge, I’ll be able to tackle at least these 15 books;
♥ the Evaporation of Sofi Snow by Mary Weber ♥
I actually Did start reading this book last year, but I got hit with so many reading slumps in 2017, which ended up with me putting down a lot of books. So sad, because I really liked the story so far, but somehow I never picked it up again – fail. So I’ve put this book on the Blacklist, so I can hopefully finish it this year!
♥ the Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza ♥
a Young adult sci-fi I put in pre-order last year. Ever since reading Illuminae, Gemina and several other sci-fi books, I’ve become kind of addictive to YA sci-fi haha so, of course, this one had to end up on my shelves as well. Determined to read the book asap back then, seeing I still haven’t read it now; epic fail. I’ve read mixed reviews on this book but to me the synopsis sounds awesome and I’m really excited to find out what I’ll think of this book!
♥ Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao ♥
I received this book in the October ’17 Fairyloot but I was planning on buying it anyway – if it hadn’t been in this book box. It’s an east-Asian fantasy book and I’ve been wanting to read more Asian books and the synopsis of this one just sounds awesome I think. So yet again, I was determined to read this book asap and this became one of the books that ended up remaining unread on the shelves haha. I really hope to read it this year, so that’s why I’ve added it to the Blacklist as well.
♥ ROAR by Cora Cormack ♥
This book was one of my highly anticipated 2017 releases but at the time of this book’s release date, something went wrong with my pre-order of the book so I didn’t end up buying it until later on in the year. And even though I’ve been extremely excited about reading it and the fact that I heard a lot of great things about it which makes me even more excited as well, I haven’t read it yet! Story of my freaking life hahahaha. Too many books on my shelves waiting to be read I guess. And too many slumps in 2017 which prevented me from picking up a lot of books I was extremely excited about, like this one. I really want to read it asap – alongside like 50 other books, lol – so I hope by adding it to the Blacklist I’ll get to it sooner.
♥ Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody ♥
Aaaaaannndd another book I’ve been wanting to read badly. I put in a pre-order of this book, with the intention of reading it at least in the same month of its release. But here we are, January 2018 – while the book was released in July 2017 – and I still haven’t read this book haha. I’m such an epic fail!! I’ve heard great things about this book and I’m really excited reading about the settings in this book
♥ the Sandcastle Empire by Kayla Olson ♥
I received this book with the Owlcrate June 2017 edition. It was a book that was on my wishlist anyway back then so receiving it in this owlcrate with an exclusive edition was really cool. I still haven’t read it, but I’m really excited about it. So hopefully I’ll be able to read it this year!
♥ the Traitor’s Kiss by Erin Beaty ♥
This book was first of all a cover-buy, no shame in telling you this haha. But looook at it; it’s so beautiful! It contains a map! I love books with maps in them. The story-line sounded intriguing and especially reading a Mary E. Pearson quote made me super excited about this book. But somehow I just haven’t gotten around to read it yet, so it’s on my 2018 agenda.
♥ Long may she Reign by Rhiannon Thomas ♥
I’d wanted to pre-order this book last year but hadn’t gotten around to do it then. In the meantime, I kept buying a lot of other books and this one remained in the background. When a friend of mine, recently sold a couple of books, this one was among them so I was able to buy them from her, yay! When reading the synopsis I get immediately excited again, I’m so curious about this book!
♥ New World: Rising by Jennifer Wilson ♥
This book was an EXTRA book put in the Owlcrate June 2017 edition box, so awesome! It’s a book I’ve read some very great things about in the past couple of months and I can’t wait to find out for myself what I’ll think of it.
♥ Warcross by Marie Lu ♥
Even though I already owned 4 books by Marie Lu which I haven’t read yet, I really wanted to buy Warcross as well because this story-line sounds so awesome! Marie Lu is one of those authors I keep hearing and reading great things about and I’m super excited to start reading a book by her myself but I still haven’t gotten around to do it yet. 2018 is going to make the difference though haha! As we speak, Batman; written by Marie Lu, is on it’s way right now so that’ll mean I have 7 unread Marie Lu books at home by the end of this day, lol. What book to start with?!
♥ Lost boy: the true story of Captain Hook by Christina Henry ♥
I received this one with the Sinterklaas celebration at Kwante in Wonderland back in December from the lovely Kaylee. This is a peter pan/Captain Hook retelling I’ve been wanting to buy for quite a while now but I never gotten around to do it. This book was one of many on the wishlist and Kaylee picked this one out alongisde Fire spell, yay. I love retellings so much and I’ve always love the peter pan stories ever since I was a young girl. I’m super excited to read a retelling about Captain Hook. the Synopsis sounds so freaking awesome and inviting!
♥ Wonder Woman: warbringer by Leigh Bardugo ♥
I should be ashamed of myself for still not having read this book. As a superheroes fangirl and especially a Wonder Woman fangirl, this book had to be read right after it’s release right? That’s what I thought back then when I put in a pre-order of this book. But somehow I just haven’t found the ‘right mood’ yet to start this book even though I keep only hearing great things about it and my friend Adinda keeps pushing me, lol haha. So this is definitely on my 2018 asap to read list, lol.
♥ the Glass spare by Lauren DeStefano ♥
I had to make a Christmas wishlist for my husband and even though I haven’t read anything by this author yet – I have book 1 and 3 of the Chemical Garden trilogy – but the synopsis of Glass Spare sounded great so I decided to put it on that list and my hubby ended up buying this one for me, yay!
♥ the Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin ♥
I’ve been a huge fan of the Mara Dyer trilogy for a couple of years now and I’ve been wanting to do a re-read of the MD trilogy before reading this new book, the first book in the Noah Shaw redemption series, but haven’t gotten around to start the re-read yet. So I’m in doubt at the moment whether I should still do a MD reread or just start the becoming of Noah Shaw, for which I’m so super excited about! But rereading MD is kind of important as well I think because 1. it was a great trilogy so re-reading it would just be awesome I think and 2. when I do a re-read of MD before starting this one, the details of the MD books are still with me, more then they are now haha.
I’ve read mixed things about this new Hodkin book and I’m really excited to find out for myself what I’ll think of it though.
♥ Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor ♥
Ah yes.. Strange the Dreamer. I’m kind of ashamed of having a Laini Taylor book on my TBR, instead of reading it when it came out haha. I remember very well when Laini announced this book like 1.5 years ago I think or maybe even 2 years ago already? I’d already fallen in love with her writing and the Daughter of Smoke and Bone books so I was dying to get my hands on a new story by her. So I put in pre-orders for both the UK and US hardcovers because I just couldn’t choose between the beauties haha and I just really wanted to have them both – I own both paperback and hardcover copies of DOSAB as well, for example. I’m a hoarder when it comes to favorite authors, lol – so I did buy them. But that’s been ages ago now – the book released back in March 2017!!! And my god, I keep reading about this book online, about how good it is and such and I seriously have no doubt about it because it’s laini taylor and I don’t think she could ever write something that I wouldn’t love. But I just haven’t been in the right kind of mood you know? Experienced several reading slumps last year which made me read a lot of contemporary romance instead of fantasy, so picking up this big fantasy book just didn’t feel right yet. I am planning on reading it this month though!!
So these are some of the books I’ve been wanting to read in 2017 but didn’t get around to. Aside from these 2017 releases I didn’t read yet, there are also a lot of books being released prior 2017 which I still really need to start reading. The list is endless haha. My tbr is out of control, lol.
♥ Which 2017 releases did you really want to read back then but haven’t gotten around to read yet?
Love to hear from you!
