| Bookhaul | Christmas Presents from Family

A couple of days ago I posted my regular December book haul, three unboxings went online in the meantime as well; the unboxing of Kim’s box, the unboxing of Kwante’s box and the unboxing of the Secret Santa box. Today I have a Christmas Book haul for you guys; Books I’ve received from family; my parents, sister, and from my in-laws.

Curious to see which books they bought me this Christmas? Read on.

Of course, when people ask me beforehand about a wishlist, there’s going to be booked on them, lol. So I mostly got books, aside from a couple of other things my sister bought me as well. She bought me something ‘I could use while reading’ and ‘it also matched with the book she bought me’ – her words, she told me up front. So when she told me a while ago about this particular item she bought me, that could be used while reading, I kept trying to figure out WHAT it was she bought, but I couldn’t figure it out. I’ve thought about a blanket maybe? and all sorts of other stuff came to mind. But when she told me it also matched with the book she bought, I got Realllyyy curious. So when I finally came around to unpack the Book and saw which book was inside, I knew what she bought and it is awesome! She bought me a mermaid blanket! I can shove my feet inside the blanket and then I have a FIN, a mermaid fin! I’ve seen these mermaid-blankets a couple of times now online and always thought about buying one but I never got around to actually buy them, but boy did I think they were AWESOME! So this was a really awesome surprise! Unfortunately, I couldn’t take a solid picture of the blanket, in which it would actually show off its awesomeness haha so you just have to imagine it for yourself, lol. It’s pink BTW, awesome! Can’t wait to try it out!

On with the books then..

So, from Lucien’s family and from my parents, I already knew what books I was receiving because I made a specific list since we always buy for a specific amount of money for each other. The only book I didn’t know was the one I’d receive from my sister – I made her a list but there were enough books on the list for it to remain a surprise – and she surprised me by buying UPDRIFT by ERRIN STEVEN, a mermaid re-telling! So, this was what I received on Christmas even from the families;

– Lost Rider by Harper Sloan (Coming Home, Book 1)
– Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey
– Updrift by Errin Stevens (the Mer Chronicles, Book 1)
– City of Bones by Cassandra Clare (10th anniversary edition)
– Destiny on Ice by S.R. Grey (Boys of Winter, Book 1)
– Resistance on Ice by S.R. Grey (Boys of Winter, Book 2)
– Complications on Ice by S.R. Grey (Boys of Winter, Book 3)
– Blackwing by ED McDonald (Raven’s Mark, Book 1)

I can’t remember exactly when and where I came across Blackwing by Ed McDonald, but I’ve decided early on I’d really wanted to add it to my collection because it sounds really awesome. So I thought it would be perfect to ask for Christmas!

Genre; Fantasy/Post Apocalyptic

Set on the ragged edge of a postapocalyptic frontier, Blackwing is a gritty fantasy debut about a man’s desperate battle to survive his own dark destiny…

Nothing in the Misery lasts…

Under a cracked and wailing sky, the Misery is a vast and blighted expanse, created when the Engine, the most powerful weapon in the world, was unleashed against the immortal Deep Kings. Across the wasteland, teeming with corrupted magic and malevolent wraiths, the Deep Kings and their armies are still watching—and still waiting.

Ryhalt Galharrow is no stranger to the Misery. The bounty hunter journeys to a remote outpost, armed for killing both men and monsters, and searching for a mysterious noblewoman. He finds himself in the middle of a shocking attack by the Deep Kings, one that should not be possible. Only a fearsome show of power from the very woman he is seeking saves him.

Once, long ago, he knew the woman well, and together they stumble onto a web of conspiracy that threatens to unmake everything they hold dear and end the fragile peace the Engine has provided. Galharrow is not ready for the truth about the blood he’s spilled and the gods he’s supposed to serve…

I’ve read Destiny on Ice by S.R. Grey last month. I bought the digital editions of this book and it’s sequel and I fell in love hard with this author’s writing so I really wanted to have printed copies as well and being able to do re-reads with printed copies. So I’ve asked book 1,2 and three for Christmas and book three I still need to read for the first time so I definitely can’t wait to start reading it soon! If you love sports romance the Boys of Winter is definitely a series you need to add to your to read list!

Genre: Sports Romance/Romantic Comedy

Hot hockey superstar Brent Oliver has it all—good looks, charm, dozens of endorsement deals, and a spectacular career.

Uh, nix that last one.

Brent has the talent and skill that should have his career soaring. But something is wrong. He’s lost his hockey mojo and can’t get it back.

Enter Aubrey Shelburne, life coach to the stars.

Aubrey’s worked with some difficult celebrities, but she’s never encountered a guy quite like Brent Oliver.

Or has she?

Seems a reckless night of partying, one that had Aubrey waking up in a strange man’s bed, is about to bite her in the ass. That is, if Brent doesn’t first.

Fighting an off-the-charts attraction, Aubrey and Brent must learn to work together. But it’s not an easy task when they’re at each other’s throats every minute.

Is this relationship a disaster in the making?

Or is it destiny?

Washboard abs and sex toy mishaps aside, Destiny on Ice is a fun and irreverent romp that’ll have you swooning on one page and laughing on the next.

And book 2 in the Boys of Winter series, Resistance on Ice by S.R. Grey was waiting for me underneath the Christmas tree as well, yay! I’m so happy I got to add these books to the collection.

Genre: Sports Romance/Romantic Comedy

Praised by Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author Ilsa Madden-Mills as “the usual Grey crisp writing, lovable heroes that you kinda want to slap, and a heroine that doesn’t back down,” Resistance on Ice is another fun standalone novel in the bestselling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

Hockey star Nolan Solvenson is nothing short of skilled perfection, both on and off the ice. Or so everyone thinks. His teammates are constantly hitting him up for advice, but really, when it comes to his own life, Nolan can’t seem to make the right moves anymore.

Blame it all on Lainey Shelburne, a woman he wants but is determined to keep at arm’s length. That’s why, after a few sexy encounters, he unceremoniously blows her off.

When they’re reunited, facing off against the fiery cocktail waitress becomes the challenge of his life. Lainey is furious with him for dumping her and wants nothing more than to kick him in the junk. But Nolan—typical man—is only interested in getting Lainey back in his bed.

That plan is shot all to hell when they reach a shaky truce and Lainey drops the bomb that all she’s looking for now is a “just friends” relationship with Nolan.

Take that, Mr. Hot Right Winger!

Suddenly, the “know-it-all” athlete is skating on thin ice as he tries to hide his burgeoning feelings from the one woman who has the ability to thaw his heart. But is Lainey willing to try a relationship with him again? Can Nolan resist the urge to walk away?

Resistance on Ice is a fun standalone novel and the second installment in the bestselling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

And book three in the series, Complications on Ice by S.R. Grey is the one I haven’t read yet and I’ve been dying to so it’ll probably won’t take me long before I start reading this one hihi. These books are Addictive!

Genre: Sports Romance/Romantic Comedy

Fun-loving professional hockey player Benjamin “Benny” Perry is all about scoring, both on and off the ice. With his good looks and easygoing personality, women flock to him, which is great. It keeps things the way this Las Vegas Wolves forward likes—uncomplicated.

Too bad that’s all about to change.

When Benny decides to get back at his coach by pursuing his daughter, Eliza, who’s just returned to town under mysterious circumstances, complications abound. What begins as a simple conquest becomes anything but when Benny starts to really fall for Eliza.

But something is up.

Though Eliza seems to be as into him as he is to her, Benny senses she’s hiding something.

Or maybe she’s hiding someone.

Benny would never guess Eliza is hiding a baby—her baby. But it doesn’t end there. The father of her child just happens to be a hockey player too. And he’s Benny’s biggest nemesis.

Now he’s joining the team. Talk about complicated!

Complications on Ice is the 3rd standalone novel in the bestselling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

So, if you didn’t know by know that Cassandra Clare is one of my all-time favorite authors: SHAME ON YOU haha! Just kidding – not really buwhaha – but seriously: She’s in my top 3 and everything she writes turns into golden liquid for me haha. And for me, alongside many others, the love for the Shadowhunter Chronicles started with City of Bones! And it’s amazing really to see a 10th anniversary edition of this particular book. I really hope Clare’s books remain popular so a lot of new coming of age readers – any reader really, no matter your age haha – have the opportunity to keep falling in love with her Shadowhunter world. I’m collecting different editions of her books, so Of Course I had to have this 10th anniversary edition and it turned out to be even more beautiful than I thought beforehand. The cover is already stunning I think with the blue background and the design of the rest of the cover, but the inside is just as beautiful, maybe even more so. There’s art everywhere throughout the book and there are illustrations with every new chapter. And don’t forget the fact that the pages are Golden on the side. It’s incredibly beautiful and it may be the most beautiful anniversary edition I’ve come across so far! I really, really hope there’ll be 10th anniversary editions of every book that follows. I’d love to have a collection of such beautiful covers. The original ones are already stunning I think, but this is something else.. perfection. This needs to be in every Clare-fangirl collection!

I came across this book thanks to Candyce and since I’m addicted to everything Mermaid this book just had to end up on my wishlist. I decided to put it on the wishlist I made for my sister and she chose to buy this one to match her other gift for me; the mermaid blanket. I’m really excited to read this one!

Gabe Blake is there waiting for her…and so is someone considerably less friendly. By the time Kate navigates her way home, everything will have changed for her—what she feels, what she wants, and what she’ll risk to be with the man she loves.

When I was in search for new romance reads a while ago I came across this Cowboy romance series and I love cowboy romances so after reading the synopsis I decided I wanted to add this one to my wishlists and it ended up underneath the Christmas tree over at my parents. This is the first book in the Coming Home series by Harper Sloan.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Lost Rider is the first novel in the Coming Home series from New York Times bestselling author Harper Sloan. Perfect for fans of Kelly Elliott, Diana Palmer, Jennifer Ryan and Maisey Yates.

Maverick Austin Davis is forced to return home after a ten-year career as a rodeo star. After one too many head injuries, he’s off the circuit and in the horse farming business, something he’s never taken much of a shine to. But now that it’s his late father’s legacy, familial duty calls. How will Maverick find his way after the only dream he ever had for himself is over?

Enter Leighton Elizabeth James, an ugly duckling turned beauty from Maverick’s childhood – his younger sister’s best friend, to be exact, and someone whose heart he stomped all over when she confessed her crush to him ten years back. Now Leighton is back in Maverick’s life, no longer the insecure, love-stricken teen – and Maverick can’t help but take notice. Sparks fly between them, but will Leighton be able to open her heart to the one man who broke it all those years ago?

Want more rugged, charismatic cowboys? Look out for Kiss My Boots, the second sultry novel in this sizzling Texas-set series.

And then there’s Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey. I stumbled upon this book by accident in May, earlier this year and it blew me away! I thought it was going to be a 3-star/okay sports romance read you know? But I ended up rating it with 5 stars and wanting More! I can’t wait to add more R.S. Grey books to my collection and read them but since I’ve only had the digital copy of Scoring Wilder, I really wanted to start with a printed edition of this book. Can’t wait to do a re-read. If you’re looking for a great sports romance, this is The book to go with! It’s a stand-a-lone – unfortunately, lol.

Genre: Sports Romance

What started out as a joke— seduce Coach Wilder—soon became a goal she had to score.

With Olympic tryouts on the horizon, the last thing nineteen-year-old Kinsley Bryant needs to add to her plate is Liam Wilder. He’s a professional soccer player, America’s favorite bad-boy, and has all the qualities of a skilled panty-dropper.

• A face that makes girls weep – check.
• Abs that can shred Parmesan cheese (the expensive kind) – check.
• Enough confidence to shift the earth’s gravitational pull – double check.

Not to mention Liam is strictly off limits . Forbidden. Her coaches have made that perfectly clear. (i.e. “Score with Coach Wilder anywhere other than the field and you’ll be cut from the team faster than you can count his tattoos.”) But that just makes him all the more enticing…Besides, Kinsley’s already counted the visible ones, and she is not one to leave a project unfinished.

Kinsley tries to play the game her way as they navigate through forbidden territory, but Liam is determined to teach her a whole new definition for the term “team bonding.”

A fun & sexy New Adult Romance (age 17+)

So, thanks to my lovely family – on both sides – I got to add some really awesome new books to the collection. Some of them which I read before digitally and wanted to add to my printed collection as well and some unknown books, I’m really excited about! I can’t wait to discover these new worlds and to start re-reading the beauties I fell in love with earlier this year by S.R. Grey and R.S. Grey.

Were there any books underneath your Christmas tree? Which ones?

  1. What great gifts! Those mermaid blankets are so cute. And how clever of your sister to match the blanket and book. 🙂 I keep eyeing that anniversary edition of City of Bones. I’m sure I’ll pick it up soon. So gorgeous!

Sowieso: PAARS. Paars maakt alles mooi haha. En enchantment of Raven is inderdaad prachtig ja!
