| WRAP-UP | October 2017

Another month passed by and it went by so fast! A lot of things happened this month. Good things, ‘bad’ things and really awesome things. I’ve read A LOT – which I didn’t think beforehand would happen – and the blog-stuff went well most of the time too. Let me tell you more about what I was up to, what I’ve read, what I wrote for the blog and what I’m looking forward too in November! Today’s WRAP-UP time!

Well, I’ve read a total of 17 books this month so that’s definitely something I’m proud of. There were 2 books though, I’ve already started in September with, so they weren’t full-length reads anymore and there was one shorter story.

Overall, I’ve been reading a lot of contemporary romance books. They somehow keep me better concentrated lately then fantasy reads. Which I’m really bummed out about at the same time because there’s so much fantasy/paranormal I’d love to read! At the moment I’m reading a fantasy and even though I love the book, it’s a slow read which isn’t ‘me’. So, I really hope I’ll find my concentration again soon haha.

From the 17 books I’ve read this month, there were a couple of them I’ve read for publishers/authors; Drift by Amy Murray. I won this book through a giveaway Amy hosted and she sent me a signed copy of the book, so awesome! A review will follow soon! Then I’ve also read the first two books in the Heart’s Compass series by Brooke O’Brien which were phenomenal reads, both of them! I’ve devoured them and I’m craving MORE already. I received these e-arcs in exchange for honest reviews and I can’t wait to add the printed editions to my collection as well in the nearby future! There’s also a Q&A with Brooke coming your way, so stay tuned! And I received PRISM by Nina Walker, which is her debut book. Prism is the first book in the Color Alchemist series and it blew me away. It was amazing. There were such amazing elements present in the book and especially the Magic was something else, something original, unique and really awesome! An extended review is already online, so definitely check it out!!

And the rest of the books I’ve read where books I own myself. Most of them are contemporary reads except for Devils & Thieves by Jennifer Rush. This is a YA magic story with biker elements and this was such an amazing read! I was looking forward to reading this one for months and I started reading it soon after receiving it. A link to my review will follow later on in the wrap-up.

I discovered a lot of new authors – new to me anyway – who made it to my MUST BUY lists. S.R. Grey’s Boys of Winter books were absolutely amaaazing and I can’t wait to read more of this author. I really liked the Clipped Wings books by Helena Hunting and there’s already another book by her waiting on my shelves to be read.

I’m currently reading this one: S.T.A.G.S. by M.E. Bennett

I’ve read a couple of books by authors I’m already familiar with, and whom I love dearly: Unraveling Destiny by Amelia Hutchins, the fifth book in the Fae Chronicles series. I’ve waited for what feels like forever for this book and it did not disappoint!!!! Phenomenal read, as always! I’ve read the first and third book in the Fishing for Trouble trilogy by Laura Drewry. I’ve read the second book last year and fell in love with this author’s writing. Book 1 and 3 where yet again really beautiful reads and I’m craving more. I did a re-read of Because of Low by Abbi Glines. I loveeee her Sea Breeze books and this second book in the series is one of my favorites so when I received my printed edition earlier this month, I couldn’t stop myself from doing a re-read right away. Then I also read a book by Katie McGarry, whos a favorite author of mine when it comes to YA contemporary books. This was the second book in the Pushing the Limits series. It was a great read, but not As great as her thunder road books I have to say. But I just love her writing and I’m determined to buy and read everything by this author. I’m already looking forward to her new book, coming out in a couple of months!

I thought it would be fun to add my reading stats to the wrap up as well from now on. I introduced my first reading stats image to you in last month’s wrap-up and now I’m happy to share this month’s reading stats with you again! Things like how many pages did I read, my average rating for the books read this month etc. So, here we go 😉

Justice LeagueThere are definitely several things I’m looking forward to in November. First off, there’s a new DC COMICS movie coming out: JUSTICE LEAGUE! And even though I’m not a fan of Ben Affleck being Batman and they used another actor to play the Flash, I can’t help but feel really excited! I can’t wait for Superman to return although he’ll probably only have a small role in this movie I think. I’m reaaaally excited to see Aquaman in action and Wonder woman of course! But in general, I’m just really excited to see all of them together on screen and seeing them grow from individuals into a group that works together to fight evil. That’s what I loved about the Avengers so much and I can’t wait to see what DC did with it. I love the dark and twisted feels from the latest DC movies and from what I’ve seen of the trailers of Justice League so far, it’s really promising to be good. Are you also excited for Justice League?

From November 20th – 24th we booked ourselves a little vacation. We booked a cabin a couple of hours away so we can just enjoy our own company for a couple of days. We’re planning on going to a nearby zoo and some indoor plaything for Milan and do some shopping in Apeldoorn – we loved shopping there last year so we’re looking forward to being back there again. And I plan on doing a lot of hiking with Rex. It’s perfect there right in the middle of the Veluwe.

And – I almost forgot, oops – before we’re going on vacation there’s DUTCH COMIC CON; Winter edition in Utrecht!! I’ve been dying to go there ever since the first comic con went live here in the Netherlands but unfortunately there was always something coming in between. But I finally get to go this year, yay! So on Sunday, November 19th, I’ll be going to Utrecht with my hubby and I’m really excited! I don’t know yet if I’ll be standing in line for a guest, we’ll see what happens. I’ll try to take some pictures for you guys and share my experience with afterward. Have you been to a CC? What was your experience?

And book-wise there are definitely some things I’m looking forward to as well. I’ve put in several pre-orders and I’m really excited for them to arrive. The new Michelle Hodkin book for example, about Noah!! dfbghjdbgfhdbfg. And the sequel to the Diabolic; the Empress. I’m sooo excited to read that one too! And I also ordered a special collector’s edition of a Darker shade of magic. I haven’t read the books yet, but I’ve heard so many good things about them that I couldn’t pass up on ordering this special edition. Hope I can start reading the series soon.

Blog-wise there’s also quite a lot happening in November. There are several blog-tours I’m participating in for example: Offsetting Penalties by Ally Mathews which is a sports romance and you know I love them so I couldn’t pass up on this blog tour because I’m really excited about this book! My review of this book will go online on November 6th! Then there’s also S.T.A.G.S. by M.E. Bennett, which is being published in Dutch by a fairly new YA publisher called Meis & Maas. They already published a lot of other things, but YA is new to them. They recently published the first Spellsinger book by Sebastien de Castell, which is really awesome and this is going to be their second YA published book. I’m currently reading it and my review will go online on November 7th! And then I’m also participating in the blog tour for First Kiss Hypothesis by Christina Mandelski. I’m really excited about this read as well! My review of this book is going online on November 9th! Offsetting penalties and First Kiss Hypothesis are both being published by Entangled teen and I really love this publisher so much! They publish Rebecca Yarros for example.. so yeah, I’m just a big fan of this publisher and I love being able to participate in two of their blog tours!

Even though I rarely hold myself to a TBR stack I prepare at the beginning of each month, I keep doing this anyway because I just really like to do this haha. Pick books I want to read and stack them up and look at them, getting myself excited to read em. Often enough my mood gets in the way and I end up reading a lot of other books, but still… the period of time spent on organizing my TBR stack for each month is just fun to do. I’ve got so many awesome books lately which makes it really hard to choose what I want to read first… Aside from printed books, I also added a lot of e-books to the collection as well. So I’ll make two lists now of books I want to read soon, really soon…

  • the Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (#1 the Kingkiller Chronicle)
This is the second book my sister bought me this month. It’s one that’s been on my wishlist for months and months now. I’ve heard so many great things about this author’s books and I can’t wait to find out for myself what I’ll think of them, starting with Name of the Wind!
  • Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco (#1 Stalking Jack the Ripper)
I put this one on my wishlist months before it’s release, and I still hadn’t gotten around to buying it yet. My hubby got several gift certificates earlier this month through work and he shared them with me, so sweet! And this is one of the books I bought with the money on the cards. I’m so excited for this one! I’m really intrigued with the Jack the Ripper story and I love reading about Victorian London settings, so this should be right up my alley then.
  • ROAR by Cora Carmack (#1 Stormheart)
This is again a book that was on my wishlist months before it’s release and I didn’t have a chance to buy it yet. So I bought this one with the gift certificates as well. I haven’t read anything by Cora Carmack yet, but I’m really excited to do so! I know she wrote new adult books first, so I’m really excited to see what she did with a Young adult Fantasy book! the synopsis sounds so awesome. I only hope I didn’t set my anticipations too high.

All of these e-books are arc’s I received in exchange for an honest review. I’m currently reading Prelude and I’m starting the First kiss hypothesis and offsetting penalties soon after. I’m also reaaaally excited about otherworld by Jason Segel. the forgotten book sounds really awesome as well and the blackfish prophecy is definitely a book I’m planning on reading soon as well. Can’t wait to read this re-telling about Blackfish.

What were your favorite October reads?
Whats on the top of your TBR?
Anything in particular you’re looking forward to in November?
Love to hear from you!

  1. Yay, you’ve read quite a lot of books <3 Due to my busy school schedule I didn't read that much in October unfortunately. I really liked Roar, I am very curious about your opinion! I am also very curious about Jack the Ripper, I've read some mixed reviews about it. I am looking to my sisters birthday in November, because it's been a while since I saw her! <3

Ahh I’m so curious about ROAR as well! And school does that, yeahh 🙁 I’m really curious about Jack the Ripper as well. I already love the setting; Victorian London and the Jack the Ripper story always intrigued me so I can’t wait to see what the author did with this re-telling.

And that’s a great thing to look forward to, your sister’s birthday! Hope you have a nice day then 😀
