My first ever Fairyloot has arrived last weekend and damn, I’m really excited to share the contents of this box with you, because it’s an amaaaazing box! October’s theme was VILLAINOUS and the sneak peaks Fairyloot gave us during September got me so so soo excited to receive this box. So when I came back from my trip to Utrecht – I went there to meet Jennifer L. Armentrout!! – there were several packages waiting for me, among others this Fairyloot box. Want to see which items and bookS – yes I said bookS, because this box contains 2 books! – were hidden inside this box? Read on..
After opening the box, the first thing there’s to see is the Spoiler Card with this amazing bad-ass art on it. On this spoiler card you find the origins from the items inside the box, which shop they’re from and such, so I don’t read it yet because I want to see the items first.
The first item I come across is a beautiful soy candle of Maleficent, made by MERAKI CANDLES. Maleficent is definitely one of the most bad-ass villains of the Disney world I think. This candle fits this month’s theme Perfectly!! It smells really good as well, so this first item is a success!
The next thing I come across is sooo cute! It’s a Death Eater Enamel Pin, made by HOUSE OF WONDERLAND. It’s an accessory you can use on a bag or jacket for example. It’s shining on my Harry Potter shelf now, but I’m definitely planning on using it in the future. I love the design and it’s really shiny. Again, it fits this theme perfectly, because what’s not villainous about a Death Eater? Exactly!
Ohhh I really love this next item, guys! It’s a beautiful coaster with the quote ‘Every Fairy Tale Needs a Good Old Fashioned Villain’ on it. And I think the quality of the coaster is really good and I love the shiny coating on top! This one is inspired by Moriarty and made by EVIE SEO. I gave it a nice spot on my shelves, but I’m definitely planning on using it while drinking coffee/tea while reading. And it’s a stunning prop for bookish photo’s as well!
The next item is a BONUS ITEM; It’s a set of 6 postcards with illustrations of the Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo. The drawings are really awesome!! They portray the short stories inside the book and I love the dark coloring and the red woven into it. This is a really nice bonus item!
This next item is an item that always comes in handy, whether it’s for decoration on your shelves, being a prop in a photograph or for taking with you on the road. I love these things and can’t get enough of them hehe. It’s a Pocket Mirror designed by LITTLE INKLING DESIGNS with a Young Elites quote by Marie Lu on it. I love the coloring, the lettering on it and the quote itself a lot. This one is definitely coming along with me on my trips in the future! At the moment it’s being used as decoration on my shelf.
The next item is a BONUS ITEM as well; it’s an art print of Night of Cake and Puppets and I’m IN LOVE with this item! Laini’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy is one of my all-time favorites and I really liked this novella, A LOTTTTT. I recently received the hardcover pre-order of the book and I’m sooo happy I can add this beautiful art of Mick and Zuzana to my shelf as well. The art work is done by JIM DI BARTOLO, who happens to be Laini’s husband! He also made the illustrations inside the printed edition of Night of Cake and Puppets and a lot of other Daughter of Smoke and Bone art work as well. Bottom line; I LOVE this print haha!
And then there’s also an incredibly beautiful quote card in the box as well, with such an awesome quote on top; If I cannot move Heaven, I will raise Hell. And this quote is sooo fitting for this theme, and the design of the card is just stunning! I love adding this one to my card collection. The art print is designed by EVIE SEO. The quote is originated from the Aeneid by Virgil, a Roman poet. This quote is used by a familiar book character as well; Sebastian Morgenstern from the Mortal Instruments. So for me, reading this quote, it brings back a lot of Cassandra Clare fangirl feels haha and this card will be seen on my Clare shelves xD.
On with the next item, the first of two books inside this box and it’s such a looker this one.. It’s a stunning edition – the cover is a little bit different from the original cover, especially made for the Fairyloot box – of the Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo. The red foiling on this cover was exclusively made for Fairyloot, so that’s really awesome! The book is really beautiful and heavyyyy! I love the printing done on the cover. Normally the printing is almost always done on the sleeve jacket, but with this book all the printing is on the naked hardback itself, and it’s so awesome! Inside there are several short stories and the pages are provided with colored font and illustrations as well, so beautiful!
It’s time to unpack the fairyloot bag which contains this month’s book, lining up with this month’s theme Villainous. I already heard from a friend of mine which book was probably in this box and it made me so excited! I recently received an e-arc of this book but hadn’t gotten around to reading it yet, so now I can read the printed edition of the book, yay. But first.. FIND YOUR READING BUDDIES! My number is #FairyLoot121258 so if you got a similar one, don’t be shy and let me know and maybe we can buddy-read this book? I’d for one, love to do that!
And nowww…. it’s time to see which book is inside this Fairyloot bag, and it’s: FOREST OF A THOUSAND LANTERNS by JULIE C. DAO!!!! This book has been on my wishlist for months now because the Synopsis sounded so awesome and I just really wanted to read this book. I’m so happy I received it with this fairyloot, accompanied by an awesome hand written letter from the author and a beautiful and matching signed bookplate!
An East Asian fantasy reimagining of The Evil Queen legend about one peasant girl’s quest to become Empress–and the darkness she must unleash to achieve her destiny.
Eighteen-year-old Xifeng is beautiful. The stars say she is destined for greatness, that she is meant to be Empress of Feng Lu. But only if she embraces the darkness within her. Growing up as a peasant in a forgotten village on the edge of the map, Xifeng longs to fulfill the destiny promised to her by her cruel aunt, the witch Guma, who has read the cards and seen glimmers of Xifeng’s majestic future. But is the price of the throne too high?
Because in order to achieve greatness, she must spurn the young man who loves her and exploit the callous magic that runs through her veins–sorcery fueled by eating the hearts of the recently killed. For the god who has sent her on this journey will not be satisfied until his power is absolute.
This was my first ever Fairyloot and I’m so happy with it! To be honest, every box I’ve seen of Fairyloot so far, looked so incredibly awesome so I didn’t think this was going to be a disappointment. But it can be risky to have high hopes haha. But like I said, I’m really happy with it. I love every single item inside this box. There’s also a matching bookmark with the art work of the Spoiler card on it and it looks so awesome. Two books in the box.. amazing! I love the art prints and the awesome coaster and pocket mirror. The postcards.. and the candle.. it’s just so awesome, all of it!
I haven’t ordered a box for November because I’ve spent sooo much money recently and Christmas is coming which is really expensive. But I plan on buying the December box, so I can put it under the Christmas tree so I can open it up with Christmas, Next month’s theme is sooo incredibly awesome though; LADIES THAT SLAY. I’m already jealous of the people who get this box haha because I can’t imagine it’ll be anything less than amazing. There’s also a second book in that one as well and the second book is an arc of a book that’s due to release in May 2018, how awesome is that?!
