| WRAP UP | August 2017

Since I already talk about personal stuff in my Melissa’s Monday Memories I’ve decided to skip the personal part in the monthly wrap ups. Instead, I’m now only focusing on books and movies, when I feel like it haha. What did I read this month? What was published on the blog? And what am I looking forward to? You’ll read it here..

August was a really good reading month, that’s one thing I know for sure. Another thing I know for sure; I was in a romance mood, lol. Almost all of my August reads are romantic reads and I’ve barely touched any fantasy books, which is very uncommon for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love love love romance but it’s just.. I don’t think I’ve ever read so little fantasy in the past couple of years so yeah that had me stunned for a bit, lol. I think part of it is because I’ve received my kindle and there are a lot of romance books on my kindle account, so I automatically started reading them because I’m a bit addicted to my Kindle currently haha.

I’ve read a total of .. books in August which I’m really happy about. I wasn’t able to write many reviews because writing reviews is a struggle for me at the moment, except for the rare occasion when finishing a book I just wanted to write the review right away. But for the other reads I just couldn’t get it ‘out’ you know? But most of the books I’ve read in August were really great reads, which I’d definitely recommend to you guys. So this is what I’ve been reading:

a Promise of Fire, Breath of Fire, Four Seconds to lose and Five ways to Fall were re-reads. But jeez, I’m a bit impressed by myself haha. It didn’t even feel like I’ve read that much but seeing them all lined up here, shows it was more than I would’ve thought. 22 books xD

What did you read in August and which one was your favorite?

And I can’t believe it, but it’s true; I’m currently 12 books ahead of schedule for my Goodreads challenge! 12! In January this year I’ve decided to set my goal on 140 books, but slump after slump kept hitting me and I kept being behind schedule which was really frustrating. So I decided to adjust my challenge to 120 books, to get a little breathing space. Still, I kept being behind on track, grr.. And out of the blue, I’ve got myself out of that slump and read so much in the past months I’m now 12 books ahead, ha!

WRAP UP| July 2017

Sooo, September started and if there’s one thing that pops up when I think about books and September then it’s: THE TOWER OF DAWN RELEASE!!!! Yes, yes yes. September 5th is marked on my calendar for months now – I even added a countdown widget on my phone and blogsite, lol – and I can’t believe it’s finally here. Okay, so Chaol never was my favorite to begin with but I definitely sympathize with the guy and knowing we get a full-length novel with some new elements of this world and some things we’ve read about in the Assassin’s Blade.. My god, I’m just sooooo excited! I’ve ordered the Tower of Dawn special from the YA chronicles box, and I’m really excited to see what items they’ve put in the box aside from the UK paperback edition. I’ve pre-ordered the hardback edition at a Dutch webshop I often buy and I’ve ordered the Barnes & Nobles special edition. So that’s three times TOD beauty, yes <3

Aside from Tower of Dawn.. My god you guys, there’s so much awesomeness coming our way this month and I’m panicking because I just don’t know what to buy first, lol. I’ve put a couple of pre-orders in, but the list is endless this month on books I want to buy haha. It’s also my birthday this month – September 15th – so maybe I get a couple of new books then as well, who knows *grins*.

Lets see. Oh yesss, Since we’re talking about my birthday. That same day I’ll be traveling to Amsterdam with my Bestie Kwante, because we got the honor of meeting with Sophie Jackson – known for the a Pound of Flesh books – and get to do an Interview with her, so awesome! I’m really looking forward to this and  I’m really thankful the Publisher gave me this opportunity!

Here we go again haha.. That TBR. I always like making a tbr stack but seldom hold myself to it.
I’m currently reading Atlantis: the King’s Return by D.K. Combs and omygod this is definitely already a favorite of mine. It has elements of the little mermaid – which is my all-time favorite Disney movie, the world building is phenomenal, there are gods and mythology present, an addictive adult romance that’ll leave you breathless and the characters are to die forrrr. Yep, I’m a big fan of this book and I’m really hoping it’ll not take a whole year for the sequel to be released, because I seriously can’t wait that long!

I’ve started reading Trucker Girl, written by a Dutch author who asked me to review this book and the synopsis sounded really awesome and definitely like it would be a ‘my kind of book’ so I couldn’t say no. I’m reading it on my phone since so it’s taking a little longer since I’m preferring reading on the Kindle at the moment.

Then there’s a Poison Dark and Drowning, which I’ve been reading for quite a while now. It’s taking me a bit longer than expected but not because I don’t like it but because I had to read it on the phone and I don’t like reading on the phone anymore. Since I was given an e-arc through netgalley and got the book as a mobi. file, I’m now able to read it on the kindle, so yay! The book is due to release on September 19th so keep your eyes open for my review around that date! The first book, a shadow bright and burning, got 5 well deserved stars!

For the rest of September.. Well, I’ve got my calendar quite full, I have to say. I’m participating in another blog-tour and I’m reviewing a lot of other books for publishers/authors/netgalley, so I really don’t have to feel bored, lol. Of course there’s also the fact that Tower of Dawn releases in 4 days, 4 days!!!! So that’s definitely a FOR SURE book that I’ll be reading this month.

I’m planning on reading Can’t hardly breathe by Gena Showalter this weekend. She recently accepted me to her new reviewers group on facebook, so awesome! And I already got an e-arc of the next book in this series which will release in October! So reading Can’t Hardly Breathe is on the program for this month.

I’m going to read the Mountain Men trilogy by Hazel Parker so I can review and publish the review this month.

I got asked to review Hearts Unleashed by Paris Wynters and the book sounded like something I’d definitely would love, so I’m very excited to start reading this one!

I’m participating in the blog-tour for the Siren chronicles book 1 by Douglas J. Sloan. I got an e-arc through netgalley and was asked by the publisher if I was interested in participating. I love participating in blog-tours and since I was already reviewing the book I didn’t see why I wouldn’t participate. I haven’t gotten the exact date yet at which I need to publish my article but it’ll be somewhere between 18-29 September. I haven’t read the book yet, so that’s another book on my tbr this month.

Since I’m going to be busy writing a lot of reviews this month I’m not going to put any pressure on myself for reading any other books as the ones I set out to read, and I’ll see at the end of the month what I was able to read, let it be a surprise haha. Aside from the blog stuff I need to do, September is packed with plans; a couple of birthdays we need to attend to, I’m going to visit Sophie Jackson in Amsterdam and we’re going to Disneyland from September 17th-20th, so it’s going to be a very busy month haha.

Overall I can look back to August with a pleased feeling. Writing reviews is hard at the moment, with some books I can write an extended review instantly and with others not, so I’ll just take my time and you’ll see them eventually, lol. I’m still not back at my ‘normal’ publishing behavior when it comes to writing and publishing articles, but again; I’ll just take everything as it comes and eventually it’ll get online somewhere along the line haha.

How was August for you? What was your favorite new book and your favorite read? Love to hear from you!

  1. Congrats with being so far ahead in your Goodreads challenge! That’s awesome. “Atlantis: The King’s Return” looks really good. I’ve never read a retelling of The Little Mermaid before. Have a good September and good luck with all your upcoming reviews!

Thank you, I’m really happy with the GR challenge progress! Hope being 12 books ahead of schedule now is going to help when my next slump hits or when I’m busier and have less time to read haha.

I can reaaaaaly recommend Atlantis: the king’s return, it was really good! If you ever come around to reading it, I’d love to hear what you think of it.

And you have a good September as well <3

  2. Wow! 22 books is impressive!!! Thanks again for doing the Dog Tag! Happy reading in September.

  3. Ik ben heel blij met de hervertellingen van Beauty and the Beast die ik kreeg (Hunted & As old as time) én kocht (Wintersong).

Hunted is echt mijn favoriet so far, vond dat boek echt heel erg goed <3! As old as time moet ik nog lezen, staat ook al een tijdje op de kast, samen met een hervertelling van doornroosje van diezelfde auteur.

Dat zijn wel een paar hele gave boeken wat je mocht toevoegen aan de collectie!!
