It’s been a while since I last published a MONTHLY MONDAY BOOK SHELFIE. Since my buddy Kwante in Wonderland is back to blogging again I, of course, go along with publishing new monthly monday’s again, yay! At the time before I published the first article, Kwante asked me if I wanted to join her with this new ‘project’. After hearing what she intended to do with this article I immediately said yes because it sounded really awesome!
What exactly is the intention of this monthly Monday book shelfie?
- Kwante will give you each month up front a new subject
- you tell something about your chosen book;
- How did you get it?
- Did you read it or is it still on your tbr?
- What did you think of it/what do you expect?
- And you end the article with a book shelfie!
I’ve recently written several things about summer reads and I’ve got quite an amount of books I think are perfect as a summer read, but there’s one in particular that pops into my mind right away and that’s Summer days & Summer Nights, edited by Stephanie Perkins. This is a collection of several short stories written by well known authors. All the stories are set in the Summer and therefore perfect for a summer read, don’t you think? I think so..
HOW DID I GET THE BOOK?
I came across this book when I was in Eindhoven for a meeting with Kwante. We always go for lunch there – it’s right in the middle of where we both live so it’s the perfect location for us to meet up – and afterwards we do a little shopping. And of course, the bookstore always receives a visit from us. This particular bookstore, Van Piere, has quite an awesome English collection so there’s always something I come across I want to buy, when I’m there. Summer days and Summer nights has been on my wishlist for quite some time so when I saw this beautiful edition I just had to buy it – and the price was also fairly cheap, so yay!
DID I READ IT YET?
Yes, I did read it. I took the book with me on vacation in July and read it while I was there.
WHAT DID I THINK OF IT?
I was so excited for these short stories, but unfortunately I was quite disappointed by most of them :(. When it comes to short stories I think it either is a grand success or a complete failure. Not every author is capable of writing successful short stories. Since there were a lot of amazing authors present in these short stories maybe my expectations were set too high? Don’t know, but there wasn’t even 1 story that had the capability of blowing my mind. And most of them I didn’t even finish, oops. And it’s not that I don’t like short stories, because I’ve read many amaaaazing short stories already – which is why I was so excited for this book. But well.. just ‘meh’ haha. I won’t go into detail on every one of them since there are 12 short stories but this one just wasn’t for me I guess. Now I’m at a crossroad; do I keep the book or sell it? Because I was planning on selling books I wouldn’t re-read anymore, but this edition is so so sooo beautiful haha. The baby blue hardcover with the yellow pages, the pink ribbon and inside is really awesome as well. Every new story contains a beautiful Illustration. In the end I think I’m probably going to sell it at some point, but for now I keep it for a little while longer because it’s just so beautiful haha.
