While reading Rebel, I came across a line said by the male lead character early on in the book and then it happened; BOOM! that specific song I love so much from the Script: ‘Never seen anything quite like you’ popped into my head. Well, popped.. It was like being struck by lightning – not that I know how that feels like but ok. But it just was a HUGE moment, that’s what I’m trying to say here, lol. It was the first of many moments where I realized I should really need to compose a playlist for this book, so here’s my Story Sound Saturday article for REBEL!!

While writing my review of Rebel, I was listening to spotify playlists and there were a couple of songs that just immediately hit home, you know? Like it was meant to be that I was listening to those specific songs while writing the review of Rebel and realizing those songs belonged to this book – in my opinion. So it wasn’t difficult at all to write down this Story Sound Saturday and compose a little playlist for this book. When listening to these songs, I immediately feel all the Penna/Cruz feels I experienced while reading the book. And I can’t stop swooning and listening non-stop to the songs I chose for this book so I can keep ‘reliving’ the story over and over again. I love how effective music can be in combination with books and beautiful, romantic stories like the one of Penna and Cruz. But first, let me tell you a bit more about the Renegades and REBEL!

Let yourself be swept away into the world of the Renegades. The Renegades perform extreme stunts worldwide, the most amazing settings are being explored. And all of the awesome characters present will steal your fangirl heart when you read their story! And not only the stunts they’re performing are extreme, but the developing romances are as well. Hot, sizzling and extremely addictive romances are waiting for you to become your next addiction. Your fangirl heart will swoon, cry, love and cherish all that Rebecca Yarros created for us in this freaking amazing trilogy. I’ve devoured WILDER, I’ve devoured NOVA and I devoured REBEL, just as I did with the rest of the books I’ve read by Rebecca so far.

She’ll defy his every expectation.

She’s Penna Carstairs.
The Renegade they call Rebel.
FMX-treme Magazine’s sexiest female athlete of the year.
There’s no rule in extreme sports she hasn’t broken,
No gender barrier she hasn’t demolished.

She’s the woman I met in a bar in Vegas.
The woman I illegally BASE jumped for.
The woman I spent one insane, incredible night with.
But now I’m screwed.
Or rather…not screwed.

Because the woman I can’t get out of my head is the one woman I can never touch again.
I’m Dr. Cruz Delgado—the youngest professor on this campus,
And Penelope Carstairs just walked into my class.

And REBEL.. This third and last book in the trilogy which is due to release on August 28th; This might be my favorite of all three renegades books, which is saying something because NOVA and especially WILDER were absolutely phenomenal reads already. And Rebecca seriously NEVER EVER disappoints. She has a gift for making you FEEL alive when reading her books. You really feel as if you are living everything the characters are experiencing, in such an intense way you can’t stop reading or thinking about anything else. And especially; you can’t stop feeling. Rebecca is one of very few authors who knows how to push all my buttons in the best way possible. To just extract all of these intense emotions that are built up inside me and get ’em out in the open while reading – I always, ALWAYS have a box of tissues at hand when I’m reading a Yarros book, lol. And I’ve needed them every single time hehe. Rebecca’s books, to me, represent what it’s like to EXPERIENCE a book to it’s full potential and always delivers me the most amazing reading experience I could wish for in a read.

She was fucking fearless, and even if I hadn’t been wearing a parachute,
I might have jumped just to stay close to her- she was that magnetic.
“Go to Vegas, they said. It will be fun, they said,” I muttered.
I counted two full seconds, watching her chute deploy, then stepped out into nothing.

I loved the fact we had a female Renegade in the spotlights with this one because Rebecca’s female characters are at least just as interesting and strong and phenomenally written like her male heroes. And whether it’s her military heroes or the stuntmen of this series.. They’re hot as hell, funny, smart, enchanting and addictive, each in his own way. And Cruz for example, who has all the lovable elements of a military man with just the right amount of interest in playing with stunts; He’s the combination of Rebecca’s Flyboys and her Renegade boys and I want to go down on my knees and kiss the earth she walks on to worship her. Rebecca’s characters are diverse and all extremely well developed throughout every book I’ve read, even in the novella’s she knew how to write well developed characters, romances and story-lines, which is something not many authors pull off well, but Rebecca does. And every aspect of REBEL is perfectly developed and written. The story, the romance, the characters.. It just all connects, it’s in balance with each other and that complete package of those elements combined just works so well with that amazing writing style that’s characteristic for Rebecca Yarros.

So, yeah, let’s get on to the music part, shall we? First, I let you guys see/hear the music videos I think are a perfect match to describe my feelings towards this book. But that’s not all, because I got a treat for you guys! – I’m soo excited haha. I’ve been obsessing and writing and fangirling about it like I’m some kind of lunatic, lol. I got my hands on Rebecca’s own Spotify playlists. She was kind enough – kind being an understatement, lol – to share her link with me, YAY YAY YAY! Not only the one she composed for REBEL but for all her other books as well. And psst she even has one for OLICITY, one of my favorite TV Series couple, sigh.. Yep, I’m swooning big time over here, Lol. I’m non-stop listening to everything on her lists and let me tell you; her taste in music is awesome and when you’re listening to these playlists, you’ll be thrown right back into the world of the Flyboys and the Renegades and if you haven’t read the books you’ll definitely get a good feel on how intense, emotional and utterly breathtaking these books are. So I’ll share Rebecca’s playlist with you guys as well later on!!

God, I already loved this song sooo much – the Script is one of my favorites – but now I’ll always relate it with Cruz and Penna, because just.. perfection!!! This song reminds me of that specific moment in the book, early on, where Cruz is saying he’s never seen anything quite like her and most of the lyrics just hits home and fits this power-couple so freaking good! Yep.. This already was a song with a lot of feels, but now it’s turned into a Cruz/Penna bomb that’s ready to explode whenever I listen to it.

I think I want you more than want
And know I need you more than need
I wanna hold you more than hold
When you stood in front of me
I think you know me more than know
And you see me more than see
I could die now more than die
Every time you look at me

When it’s right it’s more than right
Cause you feel it more than feel
I could take this moment now
Right into the grave with me

Oh well I’ve seen you in jeans with no make-up on
And I’ve stood there in awe as your date for the prom
I’m blessed as a man to have seen you in white
But I’ve never seen anything quite like you tonight
No, I’ve never seen anything quite like you tonight
No, I’ve never seen anything quite like you tonight

When I heard this song while writing my Rebel review there was no doubt about it; This song was meant to be. It was no coincidend this song was on while writing this review. This song screams Cruz and Penna. They’ve got so much chemistry right from the start, and these two characters are so perfect for one another. They really ‘see’ each other and I love love love this romance development and how we see both of them starting to realize at some point that he/she is IT and just.. sigh.. No more words needed, just listen and let the words sink in.

I’d jump out of a plane
Write your name in the sky
You’re shaking my life up
Could this be love?
I’m feeling drifting up
On ceilings with your touch
Could this be love? (love, love)
‘Cause when we kiss
My heart drops like a bomb
I’m in pieces when you’re gone
Could this be love? (love, love)
Could this be love?

Even though this song is quite calm, it contains SO MUCH POWER in the lyrics and the music itself and that alone is what Cruz and Penna are together as well. They explode with others around them but when they’re together they’re calm, they’re home and at the same time there’s so much power and love and connection between them. And then there’s the lyrics of this song.. It fits so perfectly, because Cruz is the only who really ‘sees’ Penny instead of what everyone else only sees; Rebel. He sees all of her and wants to know all of her, just like Penna wants to see and know more of Cruz. These lyrics are so beautiful and really fit a lot of the Cruz/Penna romance I think! Enjoy!

You tell all the boys no
Makes you feel good yeah
I know you’re out of my league
But that won’t scare me away oh no
You’ve carried on so long
You couldn’t stop if you tried it
You’ve built your wall so high
That no one could climb it
But I’m gonna try
Would you let me see beneath your beautiful
Would you let me see beneath your perfect
Take it off now girl, take it off now girl
I wanna see inside
Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight

I promised you Rebecca’s playlist and I can’t wait to hear what you’ll think of all the songs you’ll come across. Enjoy!!
