| MELISSA’S MONDAY MEMORIES | July 10th – July 16th

Reminiscing on our vacation from the week before and enhancing the photos I took there, spending time with the family and more.. It has been a busy but fun week. I’ve received a lot of awesome new books, finished reading four books, wrote new articles for the blog and had to do a lot of stuff around the house.

Since returning from vacation I’m having a set back mood-wise unfortunately and I’m really hoping it’ll get better next week. But despite feeling down from time to time, I still had a lovely week, enjoying Luciën’s last week of holiday.  Let me tell you what I did exactly, received and read, what music I listened to and more..

Our week started off with taking Milan to school. It’s his last week of school before the school year ends and he was happy to return after being away for 1,5 week in regards to our vacation. Luciën still has a week off so we’ll use that time to relax some more and do some extra cleaning chores around the house. And of course, we still needed to finish up on washing our dirty clothes and such we took back from vacation.

We’ve had two days in which the electric company had to work on the neighborhood electricity net, so we didn’t have electricity for a couple of hours each day and we decided to spent that time at my mother in laws’ so Luciën could continue re-watching SUITS on netflix and I could continue with writing for the blog.

We went to see Spiderman Homecoming and I really loved it! #MARVELfanatic We both expected a bit more though but over-all it was a joy to watch and I can’t wait for the next one. Tom Holland is such an amazing actor and fits this younger Spiderman role perfectly!! Marvel is always so good in casting the perfect actors/actresses for their characters, love it. And I’m sooo excited for Avengers; Infinity War. Did you get a look at the complete cast already? It’s amaaaazing!!

I rearranged my bookshelves a bit and dusted them off so all looks shiny and great again, yay. Costed me several hours to do so and I was exhausted afterwards but it was totally worth it hihi.

We tried seeing a movie in the cinema with Milan. Last year we went to see a movie with him but we didn’t even made it to the beginning of the movie. He was done after the commercials that are being showed before the movie, so we hoped this time would be different seeing he’s aged a bit and all. But unfortunately this time wasn’t a success either. He saw the first 5 minutes of Despicable me 3 and decided he really wanted to go after we’ve went back and forth into and out of the theater three times before we decided to give up haha. So yeah, going to the movies isn’t something we’re planning to do with Milan again anytime soon haha.

On Friday we went to the Valkenier with Milan, a small amusement park nearby – we’ve got a membership so we can visit more often throughout the year. We’ve had lots of fun and Milan even went into the haunted house attraction and the rollercoaster which he never dared to do before so #proudmommy. Later this year – September – we’re going to Disneyland Paris so we’re hoping to get Milan ‘ready’ by then so he dares to go in some attractions over there as well – If not, that’s not a problem either since there’s lots of other things to do and see in Disneyland.

In the weekend we went to visit my sister and her boyfriend because they got two puppies and we were all very excited to go meet them. Two sisters named Lily and Bella and they’re so tiny and fluffy and adorableeee. They’re Pomeranian and came all the way from Russia because my sister’s breeder didn’t have a litter. So she went to Russia to her breeder there to get them. The breed isn’t one you see very often here. I’m more of a larger dog person but I have to admit; these two babies are freaking cute and you can’t stop falling in love with them even if you’d try.

Sunday was today’s last day off before he has to go to work again, and we’d decided to take it easy. Milan went to my parents later on in the day because my sister was going to visit them with Lily and Bella and of course he wanted to go there as well. We decided to let him sleep there as well, so we’d be assured of a good’s night rest – hopefully. We watched some TV – Ballers with Dwayne Johnson – and I’ve read a novella of the Hard Ink series by Laura Kaye.

I love listening to music and combining it with books as well, hence why I started my Story Sound Saturday article last year. I often listen music while reading and spotify is always playing while blogging. Some of my favorite songs from last week:

  • Avril Lavinge – Keep Holding On
  • The Script – Army of Angels
  • The Script – Flares
  • Imagine Dragons – Demons
  • Imagine Dragons – Believer
  • Imagine Dragons – It’s Time
  • Ed Sheeran – Happier
  • Ed Sheeran – One
  • One Direction – Steal my Girl
  • Westlife – How to Break a Heart

While being away on vacation I didn’t get around to write stuff for the blog which I initially thought I would get to do while on vacation. So the blog was quiet for the whole week while I was away. I sometimes went online to read comments and such, but aside from that I didn’t think about the blog much – a definite sign I was in need of this vacation, lol.

When getting back from vacation the first things I did for the blog was writing a shop-log to show you guys what I bought in Spain and a Wrap-up to show you guys what I’ve read while I was away. After that I began to start writing on some new reviews, tag post’s, wishlist Wednesday posts and much more. I was trying to get my rhythm back. Aside from writing new articles I tried to read up on some of my favorite blogs and leaving comments.

There are still a lot of articles I want to finish writing but it takes more time than I initially thought it would take. Some items have been in draft for weeks now and still aren’t finished. I just can’t finish most articles in one sitting, you know? My mind drifts off so fast sometimes so that while writing an article I can’t help myself if I often switch to another one just out of the blue and start writing on that one, so the previous article goes back into draft-status. But this has been my writing-style since the start and I don’t think it’ll ever change because it’s just how my brains work haha. When a new idea pops into my head, I need to work on it right away instead of finishing a current article first. I often need 4 or 5 sittings before I finish an article. Sometimes I finish them in 1 sitting. It just depends on my mood and how my concentration is doing at the time and if there are new ideas popping in my head that need to be written down. just.. CHAOS haha.

In the meantime I’m still busy translating my older Dutch articles to English and re-write them at the same time. This takes a lot of time to do, especially since I want to re-write a lot of the articles and change some lay-outs here and there, but I like seeing them being transformed into these ‘new’ English editions and being published. I can’t wait though till I’m completely done with all the translating, since it requires so much time and effort to do so, but that’s why I’m taking my sweet time to do it, lol.
This went online last week;

Stacking the Shelves:
Every month I publish a BOOK-HAUL post in which I show you guys my hauls of a complete month, but I thought it would be nice to involve my latest buys in the MMM as well.
The past week was a great week when it came to stacking my shelves. These books were added to the collection this past week:

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry (#1 Pushing the Limits)
Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry (#2 Thunder Road)
The Idiot Gods by David Zindell
Because you love to hate me
Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody
Waste of Space by Gina Damico
Helemaal het einde by Lisette Jonkman
EONA by Alison Goodman (#2 EON)

I’ve also finished a couple of reads:

  • Helemaal het einde van Lisette Jonkman RATING: 5/5
  • Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry (#1 Pushing the Limits) RATING: 4/5
Because I really loved my first Katie read – Nowhere but here – I bought this book right after finishing that first read and I received it last week. I’ve read it immediately because I was extremely curious about this series. I really liked it. It was really beautiful and quite different from the Thunder Road books. I think Thunder Road remains my favorite of Katie, but Pushing the Limits was really great as well and I love to buy more books from this series.
  • Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry (#2 Thunder Road) RATING: 4/5
After finishing the first Thunder Road book I immediately bought Walk the Edge, because I wanted sooo much more of this world and characters. I received the book last week and I finished reading it last week as well. I love this series so much and can’t wait till book three is published in paperback so I can buy and read it.
  • Hard to hold onto by Laura Kaye (#2.5 Hard Ink) RATING: 4/5
This was a re-read for me. I’ve read the entire Hard Ink series last year and they were my first introduction to Laura Kaye and she’s become one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. I love her writing style and the elements she combines in her stories; exciting story-lines with a lot of action, ex-marines, bikers and really good developed romances.

I try to read as many articles of favorite bloggers and try to leave as many comments as I’m able to. Aside from my friend Kwante in Wonderland I see many other (international) bloggers who often praise one another for their blog/articles and I’d really like to do this as well. So from now on I’ll share my favorite read blog articles from the past week I’ve read from fellow bloggers.
Some articles I really liked reading recently:

I’m still deciding on What lay-out to use for this article, so I did it a bit differently this time. I’ve added a playlist and a reading list of blog articles I’ve read from other bloggers. And instead of a day-to-day recap I summarized everything in one paragraph. What do you guys think of this lay-out? Or should I return to the day-to-day recap?

How was your past week?
