As some of you might know I was away on vacation for the past week. And going on vacation means: reading time, yes? – for as far that’s possible with a 4 yr old running around, lol. I didn’t read all of the books I took with me but I’m definitely not disappointed either by what I’ve completed in those 7 days. I’ve packed several paperbacks in my suitcase and had tons of e-books on my kindle and iBooks app as well on the phone. So I was ready to kick some books-asses.
These were the books I packed with me aside from a lot of digital books that are waiting on my kindle and iBooks app to be read;
And this is what I’ve read the past week, starting with:
- finishing my Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover, re-read. I loved reading Ridge and Sydney’s story all over again. Colleen is one of the best writers I’ve come across, no matter which genre I’m talking about and re-reading her books is something I love to do. Sure, they break my heart all over again because Colleen’s a queen in doing just that.. But her writing is so freaking flawless which makes me feel like I can’t ever get enough of her books. I’ve done a re-read of Ugly Love very recently and I’ve already read November 9 – my favorite – multiple times.. I want to re-read It ends with us as well, but don’t know if I’m ready for that one yet, because it was heartbreaking as well. I’ve got the Slammed trilogy waiting to be read for the first time, so I’ll definitely try to start with that trilogy asap. As for the rest.. I still need to buy several books by Colleen and can’t wait to add them to my collection and read them!
Until it Fades by K.A. Tucker was my next read and damn I was sooo excited for this one. K.A. Tucker was my first introduction to the New Adult genre and she keeps being one of my favorites. I’ve got the ten tiny breaths series and the Burying Water series on my shelves – Still need to buy the rest of her books as well – and had Until it Fades in pre-order for quite some time now. We were due to leave for our vacation on July 1st and I was lucky enough to receive the book in the mail just before our departure, so I was one freaking happy fangirl! After finishing my Maybe Someday re-read this was definitely the first next book to read and I absolutely loved it! The writing K.A. Tucker hooked me with, was there and I loved every second of this book so much! Getting a new read of a favorite author feels like coming home and this one definitely felt just like that. Extended review will follow soon!
- Then I continued with a book that’s been on my shelves a really long time – I’ve got no idea how and now I really feel sad I’ve waited so long to read this book – and decided to put it on my Summer tbr. After reading the synopsis again I decided I wanted to read it sooner so I took it with me on vacation; Nowhere but here by Katie McGarry (#1 Thunder Road). I was enthralled by this book. Loved the setting, the writing, the romance and the biker club elements and it left me craving for more – so I ordered the second and third book in the series while on vacation and they will be here next week I think, yay. I’ll definitely write a more extended review on this book because it was so good and it needs way more attention! I gave it a 5 star rating and Katie McGarry has worked her way up my favorite list with this book. I can’t wait to read more!!!!
My next read is one I’ve been dying to read for ages but at the same time I was really nervous about it because the other book I’ve read by this author disappointed me. I’ve heard from several friends this book was going to be good so maybe my expectations were set to high.. or this author just really isn’t for me. I’ve read FANGIRL by Rainbow Rowell and I gave it a 3 star rating. It was cute and romantic from time to time but it didn’t make my heart skip a beat you know? Just like E&P wasn’t IT for me.. Don’t know what it is with her books but they give me this ‘meh’ feeling, even though I read the book really fast. But I don’t think I’m going to read Carry on or other books from her in the future.
- The next read was a read I’d already started months ago but my mind just wasn’t ‘in the game’ at the time so I put it aside; PS I STILL LOVE YOU by Jenny Han. I adoreeeed the first book, To all the boys I’ve loved before and was so excited to read this sequel. Lara Jean captured my heart with her love for romance and I really like reading her teenage years experiences and all elements that come looking with being a teenager; love, heartbreak, failure, doubts, friendship, family and much more. I love Lara Jean’s bond with her family. Jenny Han’s writing style is a joy to read. Once started I couldn’t stop anymore and I finished the book within a day. I loved returning to Lara Jeans, Peter and all the other characters and see the story continuing. I haven’t gotten the third and last installment of the trilogy yet, Forever and Always, but it’s very high on my wishlist. Can’t wait to see what Jenny has in store for Lara and Peter in this last book! I gave it a 4 star rating and I’ll probably write an extended review of this book as well.
I’ve also started with Summer days & Summer nights, which contains 13 short stories from several well known authors. I have to say that so far I’m not all that impressed with the stories I’ve read and I even DNF’ed several of them unfortunately 🙁 – DNF’ing isn’t something I do often so yeah… I was really excited to read this book but at this point I don’t know if I’ll finish the stories that I haven’t started yet.
- And aside from reading physical books I’ve also read on the phone using the kindle and iBooks apps. I’ve finished Another Postcard by Elle Christensen (#1 Stone Butterfly Rockstars) and O.M.G. this book was such an awesome read! I don’t think I’ve read a rockstar romance so far I didn’t like, it’s a soft spot, and thank god this book was again a really awesome read within the genre. It contained everything I was hoping for and more and I’m reaaaally excited to read the rest of the series and the stories of other characters. Because I really loved all of the characters in this book and can’t wait to see what the author has in store for the side characters as well in the next books. But damn, reading the story of Levi and Brooklynn set my heart on fire. It was extremely sexy and romantic and the romance was so well developed, just dhjbghdjbfghjbdfgdfgdfiretgg.. If you love rockstar romances, you really need to buy and read this book because I know for sure you’ll fall in love with Levi and Brooklyn as well!
And I don’t know when and/or how it happened but at the moment I’m only 2 books behind with my Goodreads challenge, yay! I’ve been 5/6/7 books behind on the challenge for the last 4 months, I guess? But I kept falling back into reading slumps, or just didn’t find the time and/or energy to read so that sucked a bit. But I was like; well, I’ll see what happens.. maybe it corrects itself in a while and now I’m almost back on track, so that’s awesome! I’ve got a lot of articles and reviews to write at the moment so I’ll probably fall behind somewhat more on the challenge again, but we’ll see. No pressure! I’ve still got time before it’s December 31st so I’m hoping to catch up eventually hihi.
I didn’t think beforehand I could finish as much books as I did eventually so I’m definitely not disappointed. We were there for 6 full days and one half day in which I read whenever I wasn’t entertaining Milan or busy with other things. I’m glad bringing these books I picked beforehand, they were lovely to read while on vacation.
Have you read any of the books? I’d love to hear what you thought of them!
Do you have an upcoming vacation and if so, did you already decide which books to bring?
