When this post publishes, I’m busy packing up our last stuff needed for our vacation. This evening we’ll fly from Maastricht Airport to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, for an 8 day stay in an all inclusive 4* hotel & spa. Sounds like heaven doesn’t it? I really hope it’ll be just like that, lol. Back on track; you’re here for my monthly wrap-up. What was I up to in June? What books did I read? What articles were published on the blog and more will be dealt with in this article. Happy reading!
WHAT I WAS UP TO.
June was a busy month. Birthdays, appointments, lots of blogging and packing for our vacation. Since there’s so much I still want to write and publish on the blog, I’ve been focusing on that more than on the translation of the Dutch articles. But I’ll definitely keep working on translating everything – except for the Dutch reviews – from Dutch to English and as I’ve said before; in the meantime you can still read everything in English if you’d like to by using the Google translate button.
I tried keeping on track with my MELISSA’S MONDAY MEMORIES but with all the chaos going around in the last couple of weeks I totally forgot to stay on track with this article so there hasn’t been a Monday Memories every week but I’ll definitely try to keep writing them as often as possible. I like writing them because it’s a diary of some sorts and I love reading them from time to time to look back on what I was up to. And of course; you’ll get to know me better as well by reading this article.
Especially the last week of June was a terrible week for me/us. We had to pack for our vacation, but Milan wasn’t well for a couple of days, Luciën got sick the day before our leave and I wasn’t feel well either. This resulted in our house being in a constant state of mess and chaos and we had a lot – I repeat, a LOT – of things to do before our leave and it seemed impossible, lol. But in the end everything turned out okay thankfully and we packed up everything we needed and didn’t even forget a thing – a Wonder!
WHAT I’VE READ.
I’ve started June with reading Seeker by Veronica Rossi. The second and final installment of the Riders duo-logy. I don’t know why I thought it would be a trilogy? But when finishing this book I was under the impression it would be a trilogy while the story itself was finished you know? I was thinking; what on earth will Roth be writing about now? buwhahaa I felt really stupid hearing from a fellow blogger that it was a duo-logy instead of a trilogy. I loved reading this book but was still a bit disappointed to be honest. I overall missed the presence of the horses for example, I would’ve loved it if they had been more present. And overall this book just made less of an impact I thought it would make. Still, the writing is really good and I adored the characters.
My next read was Court of Nightfall by Karpov Kinrade, a young adult urban fantasy book I gave a 5 star rating. I loved it so much and I’m currently reading the second book in the series. CoN contains everything I crave for in a good urban fantasy story. You find the link to my extended non-spoiler review later on in this article. Here’s a quote from my review:
The story-line, world building and characters are so well developed, to perfection, which you don’t come across often in a YA series. As for developing and building an epic series with a first book this one feels like Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone for me if I have to compare it’s awesomeness to another series. And yeah, if you know me even a little you know this is one hell of a compliment I just gave since Laini’s books are one of the best I’ve ever encountered. It’s a page turner from begin till end and I just loved every chapter, every page, every sentence, every word. The writing style is truly awesome. Everything is so vividly written and enthralling. The whole package makes this a perfect first book of a new series and I’m so freaking excited for the sequel, ieeeeh *enthusiastic fangirl scream!!*
After Court of Nightfall I started with an ARC I received from a Dutch publisher, Uitgeverij Q. I got Tweestrijd by Gail McHugh (#1 Collide) to read and review on the blog a while back, but then the blog stop came and this book was left behind, poor thing. So this month I decided to pick it up, read it and review it. Unfortunately this wasn’t my favorite new adult read and I had some comments about a couple of things. But hey, not all books can be equally good right? This wasn’t my favorite, but maybe it will be yours? Who knows.. The book scores tremendously good on Goodreads so don’t let me stop you ;).
After Tweestrijd I picked up This savage Song by V.E. Schwab. A book that’s been on my shelves since the release date but I still hadn’t read it. It suddenly called out to me so I started reading it and I really liked it! I gave it a 4 star rating. I haven’t gotten the sequel yet, which has recently been published, but I’m very curious to see how the story will continue in Our Dark Duet.
The next read was one I received this month: the Silver Swan by Amo Jones, the first book in the Elite King’s club series. It’s a new adult book with an extra author’s note up front saying this book is really f*cked up. That was of course one of the reasons I definitely wanted to read this book, lol. In the end I gave the book a 3 star rating which means I liked it, but it wasn’t extremely good or phenomenal. My comments kind of balanced out on the positive things about this read. Good enough for me wanting to continue this series though.
After Silver Swan I started reading Ride Rough by Laura Kate, the second book in the Raven Riders series. I really love this author. I’ve read 7 or 8 books now and all of them have been really great reads. I’ve already read Ride Rough as e-book right after it got published, but I really wanted to add the paperback to the collection as well. So I did a re-read and it left me craving for more. Can’t wait till the third book in the series publishes upcoming October. I think that one is going to be one hell of an intense and emotional read. I’ve been dying to read this story every since I first came across these characters in the first book.
Since I got the ARC of a Poison dark and Drowning by Jessica Cluess, I really wanted to do a re-read of the first book, a Shadow Bright and Burning and write a review as well. I gave the book a 4 star rating last year but I now upgraded it to a 5 star rating. There really isn’t a negative thing I could say about this book. I absolutely LOVED it and I’m currently reading the sequel. I’m sooo excited to be reading this and I’m forever grateful to the publisher for providing me this book since it isn’t yet due to release until September, whoop whoop.
Then it was time for a new Jennifer L. Armentrout read. It’s been a while since I’ve read a new book of her and this one in particular is one I’ve been dying to read for ages. I’m talking about Wicked, the first book in the Wicked Saga. It’s a paranormal romance story including Fae/faeries, which are definitely one of my favorite elements to read about. I gave the book a 4 star rating. I loved it! The characters were awesome, especially one brown pixie in particular, named Tink #sdhjbgdhjbgfhjdbfg. And the main characters are a joy to read about as well. The story-linewas somewhat predictable, hence the 4 star rating instead of 5, but that didn’t bother me much because I really loved the rest of this book too much haha.
After Wicked I decided to finish the Syrena Legacy trilogy by Anna Banks. I’ve already read the first book Of Poseidon which I really loved and it felt like the perfect time to read book 2 and 3 now. So I’ve read of Triton and of Neptune back to back and I’m really sad I’m done now because I want so much more of this world and these characters!! I love Anna’s writing and can’t wait to read more of her! She agreed to do a Q&A with me for the blog, which is really awesome!! So you’ll see a Meet the Author Monday article of this author very soon!
The last read in June was a re-read. In the last week and a half I’ve barely read a thing because I couldn’t concentrate well on reading. So I decided to do a re-read of a book I really loved and liked to re-read; Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. This author keeps blowing my mind with every new book and her books are so good to re-read as well. I loved getting back to this story about Miles and Tate. It’s so intense, emotional, heart wrenching, sad and beautiful at the same time. I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of Colleen Hoover!
WHAT WAS PUBLISHED ON THE BLOG.
I was perfectly on schedule with writing reviews for once and out of the blue I got stuck in a minor blog/reading slump. I couldn’t get things done the way I wanted them to. But overall I think there were quite some fun articles/reviews that came online in June. Hope I can keep up with this in July. I’ve got some new articles I want to introduce you guys to, I’ve got new BuJo articles to finish and publish and much more! I definitely want to pick up on getting more diverse articles online in the nearby future.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO.
Quote by me from my last WRAP up post: “Since my book haul in May was HUGE I really need to lay low for a while now, lol.”
Since I’ve added 23 books this month again I failed miserably in holding myself back from book buying. That means I really really have to reign myself in. in July. I’ve got 1 pre-order for July:
DAUGHTER OF THE BURNING CITY by Armanda Foody. I’ve added this book to my wishlist last year and as soon as I was able to put in the pre-order, I ordered it.
And aside from books I’m also looking forward to go see some movies in July with hubby;
- SPIDERMAN; HOME-COMING. We’ve been looking forward to this movie ever since Tom Holland made his first spiderman appearance in Captain America; Civil War. I really think he’s an amazing actor for one his age. MARVEL has always been very good in casting and from what I’ve seen so far I think this movie is going to be aaaaawesome – like MARVEL’s movies always are! I’m so happy MARVEL gets to do a spiderman movie and connect it with the rest of their movies so far. I really like spiderman’s connection to Iron Man. And I just love Robert Downey Jr. so I’m very, veryyy excited to go see this movie and see spiderman become a part of the Marvel Universe. Finally!!!!
- TRANSFORMERS; THE LAST KNIGHT. I’ve been a huge fan of Michael Bay, the director, for ages and all the previous Transformer movies as well. I can’t get enough of watching these kick-ass movies so of course I’m looking forward to go see this one too. I really liked the previous one with Mark Wahlberg in it and I’m very curious to see what they came up with this time. The trailer looks absolutely amazing!
- DESPICABLE ME 3. Yes, I love the yellow little bastards haha, lol. We promised Milan to go see this movie after we get back from vacation, but secretly I’m looking forward for this movie as well, lol. I really liked the first two movies and the trailer of this third one looks really awesome.
- WONDER WOMAN. Okay, so I went to the movie in June but I just have to see it again in the cinema because it was SO FREAKING GOOD!!!!!!!!! So I’m already looking forward to go see this movie AGAIN! Do you see movies multiple times in the cinema or just once and wait till it’s on DVD?
- WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. I saw the previous movie and thought it was awesome. The trailer of this one looks so good, so I definitely want to go see it in July.
WHAT I WANT TO READ (TBR).
As you could see in my Vacation/Summer TBR article I’d made a tbr stack to take with me on Vacation but since the publish date of that article – June 18 – and now, I’ve already made changes in that TBR stack, lol. Couldn’t help myself and I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t ransack everything buwhaha. So this is what I took with me in my suitcase in the end:
Until it fades came in today, just in time since we’re leaving this evening, so of course this one is going with me. K.A. Tucker was my first introduction to the New Adult genre and she remains one of my absolute favorites still. She’s an auto-buy author so I’ve preordered this book a while ago and it’s finally here, yes!!!
- Nowhere but here by Katie McGarry is definitely one I want to read asap. The synopsis sounds so good and I can’t wait to read it!
- PS I Still love you by Jenny Han I stared a while ago but didn’t finish yet and I think it’s the perfect book to take with me on vacation and finish.
- FANGIRL by Rainbow Rowell. I don’t know if I’ll actually read it, since I’m a bit skittish about this author but we’ll see.
- Maybe someday by Colleen Hoover. I’m currently re-reading this book and I’m loving it all over again <3 Perfect to take with me in the airplane and finish.
- House of Ravens by Karpov Kinrade is the sequel to Court of Nightfall I recently read and loved and I couldn’t leave it behind because I really want to know what’ll happen in this book. So, this one came with me!
- Summer days and Summer nights which contains 12 short stories by well known authors. All of the stories are written with a summer setting so it’s perfect to take with me on vacation and read there.
And as for the rest of July; I hope to finish some books I received to review like ‘a Poison Dark and Drowning by Jessica Cluess’, ‘Animal by Nikki Rae’, ‘A way back into Love by Veronica Thatcher’ and ‘Breaking the Cycle by Megan Lowe’. I’m very excited to see at the end of this month what books I actually did read.
