| WRAP UP | May 2017

Once a month I write a re-cap/wrap up containing my read books, updates on what I was up to, articles I published, updates on my challenges and so on.. So if you missed out on something.. This article will get you up to speed again. Happy reading!

May was a crazy month for me. In the first week of May I held a Sarah J. Maas special for a whole week.  I created a treasure hunt which gave readers a chance to win a Sarah J. Maas package. But at that time I’d also decided to stop blogging altogether since it was giving me more stress as relieve. So for a couple of weeks I felt relaxed after deciding this; I had more time to read and a lot less stuff going on in my head – blog related stuff which normally keeps me busy all day long when I’m in a inspirational mood. But after a while it felt like something was missing.. Blogging became such a big part of my life the past year and it didn’t feel right anymore to miss out on that blog-part of my life. I love writing reviews – which are more of a fangirl rant as a serious review but ok.. lol – get in touch with fellow bloggers and readers and writing other book related articles. I just didn’t want to give up on the good stuff of blogging, so I decided to leave all the bad stuff that happened behind me and start all over again! That also meant I decided to start blogging in English instead of Ducht – something I’ve secretly wanted to do for a long time now.. So it was time for MELISSASBOOKWORLD 2.0 – refresh.

Since I’ve decided to blog in English from now in, I want to translate all of my previous Dutch articles – except for the Dutch book reviews. They’ll remain Dutch but if you’d like to read them in English you can use the Google Translate button – there’s enough for me to do. I’ve got a lots of inspiration for new articles and articles I was planning on writing earlier this year but hadn’t gotten around to do so yet. So while I’m busy translation my older articles from Dutch -> English, I keep writing new stuff as well. So the translation progress can be a little slow – I think it’ll be months before I’m all the way done with translating everything but in the meantime, like I already said, you can always use the google translate button if you come across an older Dutch article and want to read it in English.

Aside from keeping track of what I’m doing blog-related, I like to keep a day-to-day diary of what I’m up to aside from blogging – I’ve kept diaries from ever since I was a little girl and I love re-reading them from time to time. The need for keeping a diary has never left my mind so therefore I created a weekly article on my blog as well. So my readers get to know more about the person behind the blog. This weekly diary/journal article publishes each Monday. I haven’t written them in a while, but I’m currently picking up on that. So as from June 5th you can expect a MELISSA’S MONDAY MEMORIES again every Monday to being published on the blog.

I’ve read so many really amazing books in May. Also, much more than I’d anticipated reading, so that’s always a good thing, right ;)? I’ve read a total of 13 books, so that’s definitely something I’m proud if since I didn’t think I’ve read that much haha. I’ve started the month May finishing Obsidian by J.L. Armentrout I started a re-read of this series –  and started on May 2nd with A COURT OF WINGS AND RUIN by Sarah J. Maas, one of my most anticipated books of 2017! Safe to say this book was amazing and I’m really sad Feysand’s story is over now 🙁 But i’m also very excited for more books of other characters from this world!!

After finishing ACOWAR I went on with my re-read of the LUX series. I’ve read ONYX and OPAL back to back. These books are such awesome reads and they’re over too soon, but once started I just can’t stop reading about Daemon and Katy!

In the meantime I got a new book to read and review via Netgalley: When it’s real by Erin Watt! So I decided to read that one first before continuing with the LUX series. This was my first Erin Watt read and I really liked it! I’ve already written an extended review of the book – link will be posted down below.

After the Erin Watt book I read Origin, book #4 of the LUX series.

And out of the blue –11 days early!! – LORD OF SHADOWS by Cassandra Clare was delivered! The book wasn’t due to release until May 23rd and I got it 11 days early! So yeah.. Needless to say I put everything aside so I could start reading this book. This book felt like coming home, really. It was amazing!!! Clare at her best! Link to the extended review will follow below.

I’ve got some new books delivered this month as well and I decided to start reading a couple of them. I started with Catch me when I fall by Vicky Leigh after finishing Lord of Shadows. A read with some really awesome elements! Definitely want to read the sequel, so it’s on my to-buy list right now.

Then I started with Firelight by Kristen Callihan, the first book in the Darkest London series. A paranormal romance series I’ve been dying to start reading because the synopsis sounded amazing. I really loved the first book and can’t wait to extend my collection and read the rest of the series!

Then I’ve read a contemporary romance book called the Whisperer by Elsa Winckler. Since I love horse-related stories and romance, this was definitely one I wanted to read badly. There were some elements in the story I really loved, as well as the writing but some things went a little ‘too far’ I guess and weren’t just for me so I’ve got very contradictory feelings about this book.

After the whisperer I picked up a YA sci-fi read I’ve been dying to read for ages, but didn’t bought until recently; SHADOW RUN by Adrianne Strickland & Michael Miller. This read was soooo awesome and I gave it a 5 star rating! Ever since reading Illuminae by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman, I’ve got a soft spot for YA sci-fi and read several books since then. Shadow Run has become one of my favorites as well. Interesting story-line, amazing well developed characters, a slow burning romance, action-packed.. Just awesome, I tell ya!

Then I was in need of a rockstar romance and since IDOL by Kristen Callihan arrived this month I started reading this one. My friend, Annabel, recommended it to me a while ago so I was very excited for this book! It was a really fun read! Not spectacular but I did enjoy reading it!

I went on with some more romance and started reading IGNITE, a novella by Rebecca Yarros which has been on my kindle app for a while now and it was time for me to read this one. I was absolutely blown away by this novella and I can’t wait to read Point of Origin, another Legacy novella! Rebecca’s writing is so freaking amazing and beautiful!! An extended review of this novella will soon be published on the blog.

The last book I’ve read in May was a sports romance book I started yesterday and finished later on; Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey. This was a one-sitting book. I just couldn’t stop reading, and I loved it so much!! I gave it a 5 star rating and an extended review will soon be published as well! If you love sports romance reads, this is a must-read, that much I can tell you already!

I’m definitely not disappointed with the amount of books I’ve read in May and every single one of them was at least fun reading, but most of them were just spectacular reads so YAY! I didn’t finish my complete LUX series re-read since I still have to re-read the fifth book, so that’s something I hope to do complete in June!

In comparison to what I’ve published in previous months, I’ve published way less in May. I’ve decided that from now on I don’t push myself anymore to post every day. If I get around to publish a post every day, so be it. But if I don’t find the time/energy and there are a couple of days in between publishing new articles, it’s okay too. So; much less pressure and just enjoy writing new stuff for the blog and publish them when I feel like it!

Since my book haul in May was HUGE I really need to lay low for a while now, lol. I’ve got a couple of pre-orders for June, like Thief’s Cunning by Sarah Ahiers and ROAR by Cora Cormack I’m really looking forward to, but as for the rest.. It definitely needs to be less extravagant as May whaha. O o o.. I’ve also ordered my first ever Owlcrate box for June. I’ve got a strong feeling about which book is inside and that one has been on my wishlist for quite some time now. The owlcrate edition gets an exclusive cover, so that’s really awesome! There’s going to be an A court of wings and ruin item inside and an ember in the ashes item as well. So I really NEEDED to buy this box, lol. Anyone else who ordered the June owlcrate box? Anyway, there’ll definitely be an extended un-boxing post for this box!

My tbr is out of control, really.. Every month I try to make a TBR pile and hold myself to it but then new books arrive and I want to read them too. And I’m a ‘mood reader’. I really have to be in NEED of a specific read when I start a new one. So if I’ve got a lot of fantasy books on my tbr pile and I feel like I’m in need of a new adult/contemporary/romance read, I’ll ignore my TBR pile and pick something else entirely, lol.. Still, I keep making a TBR pile every month. Books I want to read in June – with reservation -:

What was your most favorite read of May?
What book(s) are you planning to read in June? Any books in pre-order for June? Let me know xx
