Would you trade your soul mate for your soul?

A Shadowhunter’s life is bound by duty. Constrained by honor. The word of a Shadowhunter is a solemn pledge, and no vow is more sacred than the vow that binds parabatai, warrior partners—sworn to fight together, die together, but never to fall in love.

Emma Carstairs has learned that the love she shares with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, isn’t just forbidden—it could destroy them both. She knows she should run from Julian. But how can she when the Blackthorns are threatened by enemies on all sides?

Their only hope is the Black Volume of the Dead, a spell book of terrible power. Everyone wants it. Only the Blackthorns can find it. Spurred on by a dark bargain with the Seelie Queen, Emma; her best friend, Cristina; and Mark and Julian Blackthorn journey into the Courts of Faerie, where glittering revels hide bloody danger and no promise can be trusted. Meanwhile, rising tension between Shadowhunters and Downworlders has produced the Cohort, an extremist group of Shadowhunters dedicated to registering Downworlders and “unsuitable” Nephilim. They’ll do anything in their power to expose Julian’s secrets and take the Los Angeles Institute for their own.

When Downworlders turn against the Clave, a new threat rises in the form of the Lord of Shadows—the Unseelie King, who sends his greatest warriors to slaughter those with Blackthorn blood and seize the Black Volume. As dangers close in, Julian devises a risky scheme that depends on the cooperation of an unpredictable enemy. But success may come with a price he and Emma cannot even imagine, one that will bring with it a reckoning of blood that could have repercussions for everyone and everything they hold dear.

closes books and keeps holding on to it for dear life and keeps crying and crying and hoping that what she read didn’t truly happen. At the same time I’m in awe and so incredibly happy for this book, even though THIS BOOK BROKE ME. This is Clare at her best; emotionally Breaking you, stomping on your heart a thousand times and make you love it nonetheless while you’re crying your eyeballs out — My first reaction after reading the book. So yeah, good luck with this one my fellow shadowhunter-buddies 😉

I honestly didn’t know what to expect after Lady Midnight since the story could go several ways. And let me tell you this; Lord of Shadows is another example of Clare’s genius writing. This book shows how amazing Clare is at ‘bringing every book she ever wrote in the shadowhunter world together’ and it makes you not only feel things regarding to this story about Emma,Jules and the Blackthorns but also for all the other characters you’ve already fallen for in the previous books.. who are maybe only being mentioned in this one or even make a small appearance but it’ll hit you RIGHT IN THE FEELS. Just phenomenal writing!!

This book felt like COMING HOME. Clare was my number 1 author for a long, long time until I met Sarah J. Maas.
But damn, Clare made one hell of a comeback to me with Lord of Shadows..
This book, for me, represents everything I’ve fallen in love with of Clare’s writing in the past;

  • Her amazing capability of emotional writing and it’s development throughout a series..
  • Character development
  • an amazing story-line that has you on the edge of your seat from beginning till end in this amazing shadowhunter-world-setting
  • and like I said before; the way she entwines every book she wrote so far, from Clockwork Angel to City of Heavenly Fire and now Lord of Shadows..
    It’s absolutely amazing and knocks you off of your feet when reading it.

I can tell you for example, you’ll be journeying to the London Institute which will bring back A LOT of memories from The Infernal Devices since there are a lot of references as well in the story aside from the London setting.. So prepare yourself, because THE FEELS of that alone will kill you – MY HEART WAS BLEEDING –  So, yeah.. be prepared, that’s all I’m saying *wink*

And the quotes in this book.. Damn. Clare is so good at quoting beautiful things that hit my right in the feels.

“Everyone is afraid of something. We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don’t wish you didn’t fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn’t feel anything.”

Up front, before I delve into some of the characters; a special mention for Kit Herondale. ‘The lost Herondale’ stole my heart in this book and showed me he’s a true Herondale at heart,  sbgdhjsfghjbdfghjbdfg..  I’m a Herondale fangirl so yeah, this book gave me all the feels in regards to the Herondales hehe.

You get reacquainted with some characters from the TMI series which was a surprise to me and I absolutely loved it!
And you’ll fall even harder in this book for the Blackthorns, and the other characters we’ve met early on in City of Heavenly Fire and later on in Lady Midnight. I didn’t think my heart could expand even more in regards to my love for Clare’s books; the world she created and it’s characters, until I finished Lord of Shadows just now and truly got to know the Blackthorns inside and out,  But also some of the side characters like Diana and Kieran and so many more.. Just.. at a loss for words.  They are amazing and I love them and.. I just can’t get any coherent words out of me. This book is just amazing, utterly amazing. These characters are engraved in my heart now, just like Will and Tessa and Jem and truly; every other character I’ve met along the way in the shadowhunter chronicles <3.

You’ve probably read the synopsis of the book? I don’t want to dive into the story any further than that because I really don’t want to spoil anything. And there’s just so much happening in this book. Aside from the London Institute a lot of other places will be traveled upon and it was mesmerizing to experience all this. We get to see the Fairy realm again and some more insight in this world, so that was really interesting!

As for other stuff regarding the story;
I won’t tell you everything will be alright because it isn’t..yet (I keep my hopes up for the next book haha lol).
But, really?; when does Clare ever give us an easy reading? lol

Things happen that can never be undone and unread and it’ll kill you #THEFEELS
At the same time; there are some developments which’ll make your heart explode of feels in the best way possible. You’ll laugh, you’ll have tiny moments of happiness and you’ll get to enjoy this shadowhunter world at it’s best and worse. For me it ‘felt like’ Clare put her everything in this book and I couldn’t be more happy about that <3

This was an phenomenal read from beginning till end, one that’s characteristic for Clare.
And anyone who is familiar with her work will know what I mean when I say: THIS IS JUST CLARE AT HER BEST!!
And afterwards you can accompany me in my fan-girl grave I dug  for myself and my fellow shadowhunter-buddies, lol. I’ll be there waiting.. 😉

Since I’ve read LOS before the release – I got the book 11 days before the official release, YAY ME! – I’m dying to hear what other readers think of it. I’m struggling all alone with my feels since nobody I know has read it yet and I need to talk with someone!! Soooo if you’ve read the book, let me know?? 😉

  1. If I were you I should stop blogging at all. All those mistakes you make, it would embarrass me.
