Me being obsessed with Sarah J. Maas is probably a well known fact. If not, you know now haha. When Kwante in Wonderland tagged me to do this Throne of Glass Book tag, I was bouncing around the house like a little kid who just found out she was going to the circus or something haha.. Bottom line; I was excited to do this TOG tag! With some blood, sweat and tears – for the making of the images in the post, which took me quite some time to compose – but a lot of love and fun as well I wrote this tag post.. Have fun reading!
I’m not going to be difficult about this one haha. A cover change I absolutely loved was the cover change of Throne of Glass. The original American cover is horrible I think (no offense to the people who think it’s awesome, just my opinion). The edition that followed after that one, on the other hand, is just phenomenal I think. The drawn image of Celaena is really perfect I think. Above all, it really connects with the story, which I think is really important for a cover.. To have a connection with the story. And this drawn Celaena has such a badass feeling, much more than the original cover I think. Which cover do you prefer?
I’ve answered this question on several occasions already and my answer is still the same as the first time around; the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. I don’t prefer models on covers, especially faces like these – up close. Aside from that I also think the pictures don’t connect with the story inside, at all. Sure, you see the front gates of the academy displayed but the models just don’t ‘feel’ like they portray the characters inside like they are. Dunno.. These pics just.. bleh.
But the saying ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ is so true en especially in regard to this series. This series may not have covers what I would’ve chosen for this series if given the chance to choose something, but the content of the books makes up for it, I promise. this series is So so good! I’ve read the entire series within 7 days and after finishing I started re-reading them right away. I was obsessed with this world and it’s characters and their story. I lived for VA and nothing could get me focused on anything else. Rose and Dimitri are still one of my favorite Ships out there and they’ll always be a favorite. Give me an opening and I’d talk all day and night about this series hehe..
What do you think of the covers?
Oehh.. world building is an element I think is very important for my reading experience. I definitely need books with good world buildings, especially when it comes to a fantasy read. Naming just one book here is impossible for me, I hate choosing since there are so many awesome worlds being written! So, a small list of my favorites world buildings from these series:
– a Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy by Sarah J. Maas
– Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas
– the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
– an Ember in the ashes by Sabaa Tahir
– the Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare
– Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
– Daughter of smoke and bone trilogy by Laini Taylor
– the Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson
– the Valiant by Lesley Livingston
That about sums it up.. Which world building is your favorite?
When I think of a combined genre, my first thought goes out to PARANORMAL ROMANCE books. These books combine paranormal/fantasy elements alongside some hot and steamy romance .. I FREAKING LOVE it hehe. My personal favorites are:
– the Fae Chronicles by Amelia Hutchins
– Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh
– Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter
Nothing beats the feeling of reading a paranormal romance book when you’re in the mood for it.. with dominant Fae Warriors who melt you into a blushing puddle with their ‘sweet, ahum..’ talk. Or a powerful Archangel who chases you to get you into his bed, sigh.. And aside from the hot and steamy stuff, they contain – at least, the series I’ve read so far – an amazing story-line which blew me away from beginning till end. I can’t get enough of these books!
There are multiple books I’ve read so far with unexpected twists, but only a couple of them which really blew me off my seat. The first books that come to mind;
THE KISS OF DECEPTION by Mary E. Pearson. This was the ultimate mindf*ck book haha. This book turned my whole world upside down and I was baffled when I came across THE ULTIMATE twist.. Mary’s writing is amazing!!
And I have to mention THE FAE CHRONICLES by Amelia Hutchins as well. Four books have been published already and every single one of them blew me away. Each book has several plot twists I did not see coming and this read was so amazing! Can’t wait till book #5 releases.
And last but not least: ILLUMINAE & GEMINA by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman. Both books are full of twists I also did not see coming. And a read with such amazing plot twists, that blew me away, is the very thing that makes such a book an immediate favorite of mine. I often know beforehand how a story will turn out and it isn’t often that a book really surprises me from beginning till end but these books do! Freaking amazing!!
I knew my answer for this one right away. ILLUMINAE. This book gave me an reading experience like I’ve never had before. It’s told from different POV’s, but not like you’re used to. The story is being told through dossiers, e-mails, news articles, medical rapports and more.. It’ll BLOW YOUR MIND. I was, honestly, a bit skeptic beforehand. A sci-fi book written like this? I just didn’t know what to expect. But this book made me eat all my words.. It’s original, unique and nothing short of amazing! It’s action packed, full of angst and some romance. It made me feel things I didn’t feel in a long time while reading. So intense and addictive. It was one of my most emotional reads Ever. I’m not gonna spoil anything so you have to believe me on my word when I just say; buy this book. Read this book. Experience this book. – You can read my spoiler free review HERE.
Another question for which I just don’t have just 1 answer haha. These are my favorite books with SQUAD GOALS:
– the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
– Harry Potter & the order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
– a Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas; Rhys’s Inner Circle
– the Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson
– the Kingmaker Chronicles by Amanda Bouchet
A book that feels like coming home to me is one I’ve read since I was a young girl; the Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans. My love for horses is in my blood ever since I can remember. The story of Grace and her Pilgrim made such a huge impact on me back then. It was so sad and beautiful all at once and even after re-reading it – an re-wachting the movie – it keeps getting to me like it was the first read. This story is ‘under my skin’ and a book I associate with my childhood, with lots of memories connected to it and a book I still love nowadays as well.
“Knowing is the easy part;
saying it out loud is the hard part.”
Maybe a bit cliché considering this is the Throne of Glass Tag haha but I’m going with the friendship between Celaena/Aeling and Dorian. It’s beautifully developed and written in all these books and I love it. I’m really scared tho for what’ll happen in the last book. I’ve got some theories.. And if things are planning out like I think they will, this friendship will be nothing more than just a beautiful memory. So I realllyyyy hope my theory just sucks and isn’t going to happen haha. But yeah, we still have to wait another year to find out, which sucks 🙁
First books that come to mind:
- the Flight & Glory series by Rebecca Yarros. Damn, she knows how to hit you right in the feels, let me tell you! Never before was an author able to get me crying so fast as Rebecca did. These books are heart-wrenching and so beautiful!!
- Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. A book which is always mentioned by me when I talk about books that are able to destroy you. Clockwork Princess destroyed me.. multiple times. Never before have I cried SO MUCH even my pages got stains from the tears, oops. This sob-fest book is definitely one that had the power to destroy me and used it’s power on me multiple times, haha.
- Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. So many things happening at the same time in this one and it ended with a big bang I DID NOT SEE COMING, and it broke me.. completely. Talk about authors who have the power to ruin you; Sarah is a Queen, just like Cassie and Rebecca are as well.
It was and still is the Lord of the Rings. I’ve got an omnibus of the three books and it’s so THICK! I’ve read like 1/3rd of it and it was quite the struggle for me. I love fantasy and complex story-lines and extensive world-buildings but this one is reaaaaly extensive haha. I’d still love to finish the story though, someday. But the book keeps intimidating me haha lol
Wow, damn.. There are so many swoon worthy books out there and I’ve read a lot of them haha. I love to read New adult books for example and every single one of them alone is a swoon worthy read. If I HAVE TO choose, I’d go with Bad romeo, Broken Juliet and Wicked Heart by Leisa Rayven. These books are full of angst and drama, contains sexy and hot writing and the romance overall is just heart-wrenching, amazing and definitely swoon worthy!!!
Inside the Young Adult genre I’ve came across sufficiently swoon-worthy books as well. One that instantly comes to mind is ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS by Stephanie Perkins. When I think of a swoon-worthy and romantic read, THIS is the book you need to pick up! A beautiful story and swoon-worthy from beginning till end!
I love to spoil my friends with bookish packages but have been on the receiving end as well. I’ve met so many amazing people these past couple of years inside the book community and some of them became real-life-time friends. Christmas, birthday or just for no reason.. I’ve got spoiled big time by a lot of them. So I can’t show you just one book since there are much more that I received from friends. Thank you LOVELIES ❤
So I’ve decided to choose a book I got from an author! And no one less than Nalini Singh at that! She send me a signed edition with a handwritten card and message inside the book, so awesome! She’s one of my favorite authors and my hubby went behind my back and mailed her and told her how much of a fan I was and such and she went out of her way to do this for me. Still can’t believe that happened haha.. Just awesome ❤
It isn’t necessarily a book that made me see things differently but it got me ‘thinking’ ; DAAN & NADIA by Esther Walraven. This story reminds you of how precious life really is and how it can be all over before you know it. It’s so ‘real’ and it deals with two very difficult but important subjects. Things that especially nowadays is very common to at least be hearing about; suicide, depression and cancer.
The author did her background check on these subjects very thoroughly, and I really like that about this book. It shows things you’d normally never have known about and it gives just a little more impact to this story. For me, this book was a real eye opener and since I suffer from depression myself it was interesting to read about it in a book. It just shows and reminds the reader again of how fast things can go wrong in life and how not everyone grows up in a stable, loving family – which makes me so sad – and it made me grateful for all the good things I do have in my life even though I suffer from depression myself. Not everyone gets to grow old. Not everyone has amazing friends and family and just a really good life. This book just gives you some perspective in between living and that’s what makes this book so strong I guess.
